With the new tour coming we have the opportunity to show Bryan that there is a world-wide connection between people who loves his work. I think that at almost every concert in the US and Europe one or more Avalonions are in the crowd. My idea is that we all shout the same songrequest at the same time during the concert, for example: After the third song we all shout SUNSET! Why sunset? Sunset is a song that could fit in a more acoustic setting of the tour. It's easy to shout very powerful (far better than The Sun Has Got His Hat On). I don't believe that he planned that song for the tour and a 'normal' visitor would never shout that one as a request. I think for Ferry it a strange experience to hear that 'password' every concert after the third song. For us it's an possibility to hear if there are more Avalonions in the house. And what I hope is that they play the song at the end of the tour as a sort of tribute for us. What do you think about it? This morning they reprised the "TV2000" show featuring Bryan Ferry giving an interview + performing "As Time Goes By". I had my VCR ready, so I taped it, and here is a transcription for you. It was a rather embarrassing affair (as you will see), but Mr. Ferry was charming and although at times he seemed a bit annoyed, he took it calmly with a healthy bit of humour. Here is the transcript: (I missed the introduction by program hostess Synnøve Svabøe) Several excerpts from Ferry / Roxy videos are shown (remake remodel, hard rain's gonna fall, jealous guy, kiss and tell, don't stop the dance, slave to love and avalon) SS: Mr. Bryan Ferry! I feel like... I feel like a princess aving you [as] guest here... BF (interrupts): Well, you look like a princess (...) you look fabulous. SS: No, but this is a little country - the land of snow, and you're in Oslo... BF: It's lovely to be back... yes it's great SS: It's good to have you here... BF: Thank you. SS: I bet that Jay Leno would have said: (tries to imitate J.L.) "It's good to have you here Bryan Ferry!" BF: (I think he says) Oh, great babe SS: How does one survive three decades.... (she doesn't complete the sentence) BF: With great difficulty (laughs) (audience applauds) BF: I do know what the secret is, really. I love to work, I like to make records, I love music, and... I think if you love what you do it sort of helps you to keep going, really... SS: You're called "Mr. Cool", "Mr. Playboy"... BF (interrupts): I'm not, really (laughs) SS: ... the symbol of good taste in Rock and Roll... (a lot of laughter everywhere) BF: I think I'm rather latin in temperament, really. SS: You have? Want to do a Tango? (At this point she stands up and invites Ferry to get up and do a small tango. He rises a bit reluctantly, seems a bit out of place, and says: "Where's the music"... and sits down and laughs. He is going to say something but is cut off by laughter from the audience...) BF: I come from Northern England, and people there tend to be a bit kind of emotional... and silly, really. SS: You have four children... BF: Four boys, yeah... SS: You have? Good quality there, eh??? BF (looks around, and then laughs out loud!): I suppose so (more laughter)... the eldest one is Otis, he is now 16. SS: Named up from Otis Redding? BF: Yeah SS: But how does it then feel to be a father of four sons, 54 years old and still called a... dandy playboy? BF (looks slightly annoyed): I suppose you then try to live two separate lives (laughs) I sort of most of the time... I'm actually working making music, but, I try and sort of do the other thing as well... you know... be available, when required (laughs...) SS: Tell us a little bit about.... tell us a little.... (can't find the words, begins to mumble (almost like Inspector Clouseau when imitaing Swedish) BF: (mumbles back and then nods and says almost empathically): ahh, yeah. SS: Pardon my England... (!) Tell us a bit.... (everybody laughs) BF (to the audience): Stop laughing up there!! (laughs) (to SS) You're doing fine... SS: I've attended courses as well, you know... BF: Of course... and the lyrics too... SS: We're going to hear "As Time Goes By" which is taken from the movie... BF & SS in unison: Casablanca. (SS then gets up and Bryan takes her hand) SS: Mr. Bryan Ferry, a kiss? He kisses her hand and says thank you. The interview is over and Bryan does a wonderful performance of ATGB. To all of those who have been talking about his new haircut, "he looks old, arrgh!!" etc... don't worry, he looks great. It sounded like the real life version of Alan Partridge's Radio Norwich show... but then didn't you hear that a Shakin Stevens compilation is currently topping the Norwegian charts. Bryan is obviously horribly jealous or maybe he's just the same person. My Ma always said that there was a touch of Shaky and the Fonz about Bry in the days of classic Roxy Music. And while we're treading on this foreign thread I'd like to ask the Japs about that 1997 television appearance by Bryan currently pictured in one of their sites. Also, any chance of translating them passages inside "The Greatest". Enticed by the exciting looking booklet a couple of years ago I purchased this compilation - what a fool. My Japanese is not really up to scratch to be honest so it would be appreciated.
