I couldn't have said better and I fully agree with you. It seems many of us in Avalonia inherited a cronical disease from the critics, i.e. thinking that a nice band must be obscene, ground-breaking and noisy all the time, in every single album. Frankly, "Roxy Music" is, in my opinion, their worst work. In my own car compilations only "Sea Breezes" is worth of figuring, and most of the stuff comes from the last three Roxy albums or from B-sides. "You are, of course, entitled to your opinion". Fine, I'll end with this one before anyone starts thowing bombs down in Brazil. Just one thing - I always tought Martini was one of the 70's-or-nothing Roxy fans. Surprised me a bit... I will continue to be skeptical about _As Time Goes By_. This skepticism will continue up until the point I actually hear the album. It may continue after I have heard it, and possibly up until the time of my death (and/or beyond). Since I was here first, I will not be joining any other list because of my opinions. I have no "diseases," musical or otherwise. Have A Nice Day. It's a slight quibble but my first exposure was to "For Your Pleasure" but my favorite is probably "Country Life" with "Siren" a very close second. Their music has always been such a splendid alternative(they probably originated the term!) to all the other "popular" fare. I have rarely in my life run across any genuine fans (cow country and all)but that has never swayed my attention to this talent. A favorite recording?...that's so hard to say, from the coarser early Roxy to the smooth Avalon there has been so many styles...I guess if I could only pick one it would be "For Your Pleasure" (I must claim partiality to Eno's treatments!), but Avalon(drove straight thru from Baltimore to Orlando once without changing the tape!) and the first are right up there! Did somebody say that "Eddie Riff" was gonna be rereleased? Can't wait...could kick myself for ever letting it get away! As for BF's solo stuff..."Bete' Noire" and "The Bride Stripped Bare"...Hey...I have pictures I took at a Columbus,Oh concert in about '76 when Ferry was in a "safari" phase...I'll scan 'em and put 'em out here next time! Hey, if any of ya have time, check out my own music at www.mp3.com\scotfree Let me know what ya think! This BB is a great find, hope to talk with all of you often!! I also found out that she is a close friend of a buddy of mine-also at the screening). I asked her about Bryan's upcoming tour and visit to Chicago. She indicated that not even she has any word on where or when. Now if Terri does not know, then it's still in the planning stages. I have yet to see anything in the local press about the upcoming date(s) or a mention about when the latest output will be released. Let's keep each other posted when it happens. Jas PS: At this screening tonight,I found out another buddy of mine is into Bryan. We had never discussed my interest in Bryan before, but he heard my discussion with Terri. He immediately mentioned that he plays Taxi a lot and that it was his favorite. I then told him that I would make my Roxy/Bryan collection available for him to listen to when he had the time. I also told him about Avalon and how you folks are the best. I think he might be a future member. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V4 #274 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
