Ages ago I subscribed to this Newsletter and forwarded a couple of bucks in advance to be certain to receive forthcoming letters. Just two (!2) in about 5 years and moreover not about Maestro but Manzanera news instead. I recall the same happened before mr.Lawn ran the "PR" when it was done by Peter Lea (sp?) somewhere Thames upon Thyne. No goodbyes nothing, it just stopped. Small anecdote: I ordered an "Eddie Riff" sweater+RM poster After about 2 weeks I could welcome my sweater ...but no poster...well yes to be honest... the sweater was packed in the poster!!... I wrote back about the mistake...and again... about 2 weeks a package arrived... ...a sweater packed in the poster... ?:(( Yes, about the Site, I'm afraid when it will be complete and up this could only be history printed and posted on the Internet, forever in Cyberspace...a picture frame...only to look at to reminisce... Like someone inhere stated, this might be Maestro's last appearence?... I always sigh, wish the Internet was born earlier...piccadilly, 1972...off mainstreet... & into outer spaces...(it's so dark inhere) ...machine pile, hifi or scifi? who can tell? wailing old-time sax...is this the end?... the bitter end?(or the beginning?)... I have no direct involvement or are part of the management, record company etc that I am hiding behind. I am just a fan and collector and am known by some of the peope in the 'Ferry machine' as that. I have built up some respect over several years, not to mention several thousand miles touring several thousand pounds collecting etc, that I am keen and have great admiration for Bryan's work. Nothing more than this. I give respect where it's due and make sure I do not make a pest of myself, and most of all I show patience. I do not pass anything on that is confidential as I only get public domain knowledge, but maybe a wee bit earlier, that's all. Some information is outline info, that might change and I am told so. It takes so long to put info out officially because it might change which could cause all sorts of problems. A magazine I have headed an interview with ''Bryan's indecision is final' .How true. I have a fair amount of faith in Jim - he seems to be a very busy man and is trying to supply a free service to an awful lot of people. I keep the faith with him but the facts are, as John O'Brien has said before, we get to hear more upto date news through the mailing list than we do officially. Maybe this will change when the Internet sites are up and running but I'm not optimistic, after all we're into the Remastered releases now and the sites are no further on to promote them. You go back a bit, remembering Peter Leay. He ran the Roxy fan club from a small office here on Wirral, Merseyside just about 4 miles from my home. He did a pretty good job and had some nice merchandise for sale - he also organised a good Roxy fan club get together c.1976 in Liverpool which was the subject of some reminisences a few months back. People from all over the UK (and a few from beyond) attended as did Paul and Andy. Good times. Finally, where Bryan is concerned, I go against my nature and am optimistic!! I'm fairly confident there's a good deal more in the way of output to come from our maestro, even if we do have to wait for it. Bryan has always cited the longevity of his musical influences and how they recorded some of their best material in their 60s. Touring also seems to be more enjoyable perhaps because there is less pressure (in some respects) and the venues / number of gigs are smaller. Certainly the last two tours have, in my opinion, seen Bryan performing better than in later Roxy tours and seeming happier and more relaxed too. Time will tell! I love browsing all record shops but have never been to a record fair mainly because they're generally held on Sundays here and that's difficult for me. Can you give me (and perhaps others on the list) an idea of the extent to which you can generally pick up Roxy / Ferry rarities at these fairs. I'm not so much into bootlegs as imports and promos if this helps. If you do go I hope you have a good time. Plain text only. This list is not intended to transmit binary files, and such files are bounced by the list. H/e, they are bounced to me and I don't need this stuff filling up my email box either. 2) There are an increasing number of people on the list using Microcrap (otherwise known as Microsoft) email programs, such as Outlook and Outlook Express. Once again, the list is plain text only. These Microcrap programs default to sending HTML and multipart encoded messages instead of plain text. Although Dollar Bill's monopoly has jiggered the programs a little bit so that they respond to plain text with plain text, a large number of subscribers when they post new messages are sending in encoded, multipart messages rather than plain text. The messages are automatically bounced, again to my email account, and never reach the list. Please, turn off this "feature" for posting to the list. 3) The FAQ included in the welcome message is woefully out of date--from August, 1997. If the FAQ has been updated, please email me a plain text copy so I can replace the current welcome message. If the FAQ hasn't been updated, hey...I got a project for anyone willing. ;) Jason - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Sep 1999 01:04:51 -0400 From: Heather Buch Subject: Re: Re: [AVALON] Official Site - --_uReach_com_2691673499371990915647xxx_ Content-Type: Text/Plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number - Free Free voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com - ---- On Sun, 12 Sep 1999, f2hb@casema.net (f2hb@casema.net) wrote: > > Yes, about the Site, I'm afraid when it will be > complete and up this could only be history > printed and posted on the Internet, forever in > Cyberspace...a picture frame...only to look at > to reminisce... > Like someone inhere stated, this might be > Maestro's last appearence?... > I think that would be beautiful. A few Ferry/Roxy memories floating forever in cyberspace. Maybe an electronic peepshow of nostalgia to our hero and the glory days of his career, twinkling brightly inside a moniter, like in an old 3 and 9 movie.
