Hello! I just came across the Country Life, Flesh and Blood and Viva Roxy Music LPs in a second hand store here. I have yet to actually hear a Roxy Music album as I have been most interested in Bryan Ferry's solo work. And I bought Avalon a few days ago, which I feel lacked much of the drama and melancholic edge of Ferry's albums. Too "radio friendly" for my taste. Anyway, is there any Ferry album the above mentioned records can be compared to? My fave Ferry albums are: In Your Mind, Boys and Girls and Bete Noire. Thanks in advance for any advice! Thanks for the tip, Victor. I listened to some clips from "Viva" at CDNOW. Although these clips are really short, the music sounded quite similar to the "In Your Mind" album. "Love Me Madly Again" is such a great song. One of my faves. That "seventies" sound is such a treat for me. I was born in the seventies but grew up in the 80ies, so that whole period (the 70ies) is like a good but fading dream. "Mainstream" music isn't magical anymore, just boring (in my opinion at least). The Viva clips had that magic, so I guess I've made up my mind on that one :) Oberon - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Sep 1999 13:17:39 -0400 From: Jim Spellman Subject: Re: [AVALON] Recommendations???? The song is so strong that Showaddywaddy could sing it and it would sound OK, but whereas Manzanera's playing is so effective on Prarie Rose, Remake/Remodel and umpteen others, particularly his solo work, FOR ME, it doesn't work well in the funkier setting of LITD. Saw Roxy with Ferry, Manzanera and Spedding in Cleveland one night. Most magnificent guitar interplay I ever heard in my life (and I've been in the music business for 25 years, so that's a lot to say). Have to say it was my most outstanding concert memory of my life. Just incredible. Met them later in a bar at Swingo's where they were staying (no prior knowledge - it's just where we always went for a drink after concerts, and they all happened to be staying there.) Very nice gentlemen, all. Not to mention a feast for the eyes where Ferry was concerned.
