I have been trying for years to remember the name of the place where I saw Bryan Ferry the one and only time in my life, and that was it! I was at that show!! And it was great. I went with my ex-boyfriend. We hung out at the Frolic Room on Hollywood Blvd. and had a few drinks, then went to the Pantages show, which incidentally was excellent. Ferry looked amazing, was full of charisma, and did a number of old songs, including "In Every Dream Home a Hearthache." It was a highly emotional night for me as well, as my boyfriend and I had just broken up for the third time, and knew that would be it, very bittersweet. But I'm so glad someone mentioned this show. I generally save all my ticket stubs, but had somehow lost this one and forgotten the name of the venue, and even the year. Well, thanks again. Our paths have unfortunately never crossed professionally although I have met him on a number of occasions. Actually, this is not true. The band, Roxy Music, of which he was the lead singer supported me several times in the very early seventies. Most memorably in Kroydon. The Greyhound Pub as it happens. After his show, Ferry had a splitting headache and a smashing looking bird. So had to rush home quickly for a quick aspirin. Leaving in his wake a short, balding brain with a feather boa and remarkably silly clothes. Sillier even than mine. He introduced himself to me as Brian Eno, an educated man. I just have a sucky VHS like the rest of the masses. But I do play nearly all my music on wonderful old black vinyl LP's, on an Ariston turntable made in Scotland around 1974. It's a bit of extra effort but it works like magic for me. No remote control, and no falling asleep. No spending more than three bucks on a pop album. Anyway I never did buy into the "perfect sound forever" crap about CD's. (ducking flames now) Noam, one of the Luddites ;) _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? The last two tours have had very up-tempo, guitar orientated sets but I think he'll have some strings and brass with him this time. I can see a grand piano dominating the set. We know from the GQ interview that his stage attire will be "formal." The Another Time Another Place tour that I alluded to recently was presented as a stark contrast to the Stranded tour, the former being a tuxedoed croonfest while the latter was roaring heyday Roxy, the tours being less than six months apart ! If I'm right then I'd love to see the cobwebs wiped off some forgotten ballads or slower numbers : "When She Walks In The Room," "Lover," "Psalm," "Running Wild," "2HB,""Taxi," and "Spin Me Round." And perhaps an orchestral / big band treatment given to "Sensation," "Mamouna," and "Love Me Madly." (!!) It would be very surprising if we didn't get "I'll see you again" and "Sonnet," and I suspect "Will you still love me" will be aired. Of the standards I fear "Europe", "Slave" and "Jealous Guy" will be wheeled out for the non-Avalonions ! The band is anyone's guess. Hubbard seems a safe bet but someone at RFH told me that he's out of favour. Trower is still around but would his playing lend itself to the 30's sound ? I reckon Bry will throw a surprise or two in the band. Mackay ? Spedding ? Gilmour ? ....
