HMV and Tower at Piccadilly both asking 12.99 a piece with about four of each title on the shelves. No special push or promotion. Virgin Megastore at Tottenham Crt Rd asking 10.99 each and about ten of each title in the racks but also the first four titles on a listening post - - and yes they do sound good - esp the first album - gone are the 'thin' vocals of my old copy replaced by a sumptuous velvety mix. And some of the old analog distortion on Country Life has been removed - they sound very 'sweet'. Our Price at Victoria had no stock and said "we only stock new releases here, but we can order them in or you can get them at a bigger store". They are asking 9.99 according to the 'oik' who looked it up on the computerised till. Or does this mean there is a new best of (honestly, how many of these dead horses can they beat) which will include As Time Goes By (single version)? Which is even more confusing because aren't bonus tracks on "best of" albums supposed to be unavailable on any other albums (just so you have to buy it for one song?) The dead horse gets beaten way too much. Personally, I'll take CD four of Thrill of it All for b sides and "rarities" Now if there are indeed some neat lost tracks like on Mott the Hooples recent box then hell yes I'd go for it. I remember how nutted I was when I got the Funky Chick bootleg some 20 years ago. I'd like to see Eddie Jobson's Zinc released(is it already) I am looking forward to ATGB and yet can only wonder what if any surprises are on MTT. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Aug 1999 19:28:12 EDT From: RODEISLRED@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Not Who You Think I Am, Decophile I had a girlfriend who lived with whatsisname. If so I'm delighted because it seems plain to me that a single which secures even modest airplay in the UK will do wonders for the album even if the single itself fails. I'd dearly love to see Bryan back in the British top 20 but moreover I want to see the album succeed and anything which helps to secure success is welcome. Personally I was very despondent when I heard that no single releases were planned from 'ATGB' and I am heartened by this news. Colleen and Jeff - If I understand matters correctly, the 'More Than This' compilation was not released in the US. You are now offerred the chance to buy this in a format unavailable to those elsewhere i.e. including what we hope will be a hit single from the new album. What's the problem? How does this release vary from the one made in other territories 4 years ago apart from the fact you're getting a more uptp date 'Best Of'? I like collecting the artwork and I guess I just fall in to the very trap that they intend to set. My complaint is it's seems like the same 20 songs give or take 1 or 2. Why not put some of the rare B-sides on there? Stuff that is not on any of the countless other CD compilations and only on vinyl owned by few. I wish they had done with the Roxy albums as Ryko did with Bowie's albums, throw in a few tracks that never made the album, or demo versions, or previously unreleased live versions. It even freshens up the album tracks.
