On the subject of the CD I had an e-mail yesterday from Andy Cooper which is shown below. Perhaps this explains things satisfactorily? Richard Richard, Just to keep you in the know - I have today sent off the CD copy of the bootlegged RFH tracks to Han Snijders who has volunteered to do a clean up job on 'em with some fancy software and then combine them onto one full CD of other rare TV and live tracks supplied by JO'B and others. Unfortunately Han isn't due home until the 2nd August so nothing will happen until then but hopefully the CD tree will be kicking off some time early August. If anyone kicks up interest on Avalon perhaps you could fill 'em in on what is happening as I am about to take off for my family holiday to St.Tropez - returning home (and to Avalon) on about the 9th. He has some rare Dutch TV live performances in stereo of (I think!!) The Right Stuff and Kiss And Tell. He also has a stereo recording of the piano & guitar performance of Will You Love Me Tomorrow from later with Jools Holland. It was an episode of "Where Are They Now" about Sophie B. Hawkins. It said her career took off after being fired as a percussion player in Ferry's band. Anybody know any details about this one? Not too long ago I saw the rebroadcast and they aired Slave as well as Jelous Guy. I thought it was not to hot. The balance was terrible, one guitar way louder than the other. Marcus Miller's bass out of tune, though he does get in tune eventually. Bryan had two mics, I think one didn't work. The spirit was there but Ferry's music relies on perfection and the ultimate mix like SNL appearance. I never have seen the other two songs from Live Aid; Boys and Girls and Sensation, I wonder how those came out. Those songs I find more interesting. Is this getting on the video? Andy Newmark burst a drum skin on the first strike, Ferry's voice was distorted when it eventually came in, Boys And Girls was OK until it got to the chorus when Ferry's voice was as flat as a week old beer. Slave To Love & Jealous Guy were relatively good. There are all sort of reasons why Bryan can be excused for the mix, but I think his choice of songs wasn't good for an event like this. This was not a promotion for new albums, but Ferry in part was trying to do this. Boys And Girls was, by his own admission, the least accessible track on the album so why perform it to 50 million people hearing it for the first time. Slave to Love & Jealous Guy were OK to do, but maybe he should have done 2 others instead of Sensation & Boys And Girls. Maybe Let's Stick Together, Dance Away, Love Is The Drug, etc. In fairness, I don't think anyone anticipated the show to be as huge as it became. There are always various artists charity shows that come and go and maybe Bryan thought this was going to be one of them. He once said in an interview that he didn't want to do as he was not intending doing live shows at that time. "Bob Geldof has very persuasive ways" said Bryan to Richard Skinner. The only mention of Bryan in Bob Geldofs book 'Is That It' is that Paula Yates and Lucy Ferry had a mutual friend and between them were trying to coax Bryan to do the show. It was reported on a Radio documetry that Bryan and some other band that I can't remeber were the only 2 artists to have a decline in album sales after the show. I think this is unfair as Boys And Girls had been released several weeks earlier and had already been at No 1 so it was at the time when sales would naturally tail off anyway. Maybe Let's Stick Together, Dance > Away, Love Is The Drug, etc............. I never thought of that, but you are right. All the other artists I can remember (Queen, Tom Petty..) did their greatest hits. That must have been strange hearing Boys and Girls, a song probably only enjoyed by die hard fans. The songs on Bete Noir would have done much better I think. perhaps at this time he was trying to distance himself from Roxy. Even still, wouldn't Don't Stop the Dance have went over better? Back when he first subscribed to the list, he contacted me for a cassette copy of the '76 Stockholm show. I mentioned in passing that there was a video of this show I`d never been able to find and a few days later it was in my hands. I couldn`t believe it. I search 20 years for the damn thing and he turns up a near excellent quality copy with a couple of phone calls. Go figure.
