I received a stock list today from Key Mail Order here in the UK.  I have
had CDs from them before and they are very reliable - indeed Jim Lawn has
referred to them in one or two of his newsletters.

Extracts from their current mail shot :

Roxy Music re-mastered.
First series  (first 5 albums) due c.9/8/99
Second series (final 3 albums plus 2 live) due c.4/10/99
Bryan Ferry re-mastered
First series (first 5 albums) due 13/9/99

According to the company the Roxy CDs and "the initial Bryan Ferry CDs" are
being "presented in specially imported Japanese style card sleeves.  These
are miniature replicas of the original LP sleeves, each with the appropriate
artwork, inner sleeves etc.  They have been re-mastered by Bob Ludwig using
the latest HDCD technology which dramatically improves the sound quality"
The sheet goes on to say that the limited card sleeves will only be issued
on the first pressing and once sold out they will revert to standard cases.
These CDs will cost £10.99 (incl P&P) or £9.00 each (incl P&P) for anyone
ordering the full series.

Also from late September there will be an "unofficial promotional boxset"
whatever that is.  This is a box supplied to hold the re-mastered CDs (not
included!), will include an embroidered T shirt, a key ring in the shape of
a "nude lady" and a numbered certificate.  Numbers are said to be limited to
200 worldwide and will cost £24.99 plus P&P (£2 UK, £5 EEC, £7 ROW).

"As Time Goes By" is said to be released on 27/7/99 and is offered to
priority customers at £12.99 (inclusive of UK P&P).

  It's a cool program, lets you see when your friends are on line and makes
for easy, realtime chat. Also works with other apps like netmeeting and VDO
phone stuff. BTW I have a cam and mic setup and am ready to do a live
netmeeting thing with some of you, or all of you for that matter. That might
be fun. Let's email privately beforehand. The video phone thing is real
cutting edge, like a science experiment. Still pretty cool.

of PET SOUNDS and SGT. PEPPER is exactly the same as DeRogatis', and I'm
not even a particularly avid Beach Boys fan.  And I know many fellow
Beatles fans who think that SGT. PEPPER isn't so great, so it's not as
radical as an opinion as Jas seems to think.

I think you were misreading me.  I also think that no group is above
criticism  even our most sacred cows (i.e. Beatles).  I was just a
little nonplussed that he decided to discect SPLHCB which had a lot of
special meaning to me.  It was the first Beatle album that I bought and
it it always takes me back to the time that I purchased it.  I had not
even heard Pet sounds yet nor had purchased any of the previous Beatles
up to that point.   As a result of having purchased that album, it led
me to open my mind musically which indirectly  led me years later to
take a chance on an weird looking and sounding band by the name of
RM.... Of course I did and I'm musically richer for it.

 I do  respect Jim DeRogatis from time to time.  I'm glad that he
champions  newer and little known bands that I have never heard of.  It
just seems at times that he knocks what has passed in favor of what is
"trendy" now.  I will give him kudos for championing Smashing Pumpkins
before they became really famous as well as Flaming Lips, Urge Overkill,
Shoes,Eleventh Dream Day, Jesus Lizard and of course Rockford, Illinois
favorite sons Cheap Trick (hey and "oldies" act...I love them).   

Yes you are absolutley correct in saying that Roxy remains an obscure
band to most Americans.  I have yet to see him championing them or Bryan
Ferry (another "obscure" artist)-yet. Maybe my letter my prompt a column
from him on obscure but influential bands/artists.  Then again he might
lump them as an "Oldies" act.  I will let you know if a get a response..
