The only Roxy albums I have at the moment are Siren and Avalon, but I found a wealth of Ferry at a thrift store a few years ago (Let's Stick Together; Another Time, Another Place; Bryan Ferry, and a 12" Limbo/Bete Noir) so, having listened to Siren countless times, and having heard the Avalon cd (which I have just recently acquired fo myself), and since I absolutely loved the single "Don't Stop the Dance," I picked them all up. Took a while to get past BF doing "It's My Party" (without changing the gender, even, and now I think it's a hoot!), but I really dig what the guy does. Not a rabid fan yet, but since I finally broke down and got Siren on cd, it and Avalon rarely leave my changer. :0) Also, I 've ordered a couple more Roxy cd's, so maybe I'll be able to follow along a little better in the future. (BTW, I've got a Duran cd in right now (flashing back, are we?), and they're not kidding when they cite Roxy/Ferry as a huge influence on their sound. It's definitely there!) Later, Sandra PS I really dig the fact that this list is so active. (Thanks, Chris, for mentioning it on the GP site.) I'm on a Paul Carrack list, and in the past 2 or 3 months that I've been on, I've gotten maybe 2 posts. I forgot I had even signed up! :0) - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jul 1999 23:36:25 -0500 From: jas2347@xsite.net Subject: [AVALON] Seattle in the house... Your life will definately become more richer ( in thought at least) from being a part of this group. :) Good choice of Siren as a primer to Roxy. Now you have to dig even further going back from Siren and going forward into the present. Yes it is cool that you discovered Roxy and Eno via Velvet Goldmine. I just hope there are others out there like you who got curious and decided to seek out the sources of the music. Please stay awhile with us. There are some very sharp people on this list who will put in their two cents ( or shillings or guilders) just to guide you on your way to Avalon.
