Talking to Gareth, briefly, on Saturday it became clear that a lot of information, coming from different sources, had been imparted. I've read Bahi, Richard, Andy and John's contributions but I think there's still a lot of stuff that hasn't been imparted to the group. Can anyone be specific about what a) The Source b) Jim Lawn c) Puxley all said ? I was fairly loaded and couldn't take it all in. For instance Gareth mentioned that one of these guys said it was Manzanera that was opposed to the Roxy reunion. And didn't Jim mention that Bryan was aware of Avalon ? (Down Girls !) And wasn't it hilarious when "The Source" - a record industry consultant who wishes to remain anonymous, er.. Why ? - asked us what we knew about a new album and I replied, somewhat disingenuously, "You mean Pastiche" and he, lowering his voice conspiritorially, asked, "What do YOU know about Pastiche." Interesting. I had no idea that Ferry was heading in the direction of a jazz band. He seems well suited for it. Jazz is smooth, sophisticated, urbane. Better suited, I think, to Ferry than the Nick Cave *dark folk" which I can't picture Ferry doing at *all.* The latter just doesn't seem congruent with the symbolism, imagery, and style that Ferry has built around himself over the past 25 years or so. And I know that Ferry doesn't *need* to be congruent, or consistent. But he is! He can't help it. Unlike so many neo-deconstructivist, pastiched, postmodern rockers such as Cobain, the Beastie Boys, Beck or even Jarvis Cocker (nothing wrong with any of 'em), Ferry is *consistent*! He has a single, seamless style which seems to come naturally for him. I know that everything in influenced and *style* never just grows naturally, but Ferry has never been set on revealing the influences of his style, which make them seem more natural. Unfortunately, I think that if he were to head off in that Nick Cave direction, it would be a bit too revealing. Well, that's my two cents.
