Which IS Better ["Decophile" Subject: [AVALON] Counted & Gone Fellow Avalonians: I am out of the woodwork and standing up to be counted. Unfortunately it is just as I have to sign off. It is with great sadness that I bade farewell to this list, at least for now. I have left the confines of work and play in Chicago and have taken off on an adventure around the world. Albeit, with a very large backpack and a somewhat smaller budget. I am currently in Glastonbury, and have based much of the itinerary of this trip around some things near and dear to my heart as an Avalonian…when rumours of a Roxy reunion here at Glastonbury arose, I scheduled that in. Now that the North Sea Jazz Fest is on BF’s agenda, I hope to make it there. (Bummer that I’ve already booked a ticket to Amsterdam so I’ll miss the July 2nd gig.) Here are my round-the-world Roxy notes so far: In Marrakech I stopped in at the La Mamounia Hotel to clarify the origins of the name, and yes, Mamoun is a family name, and in this case the name of a prince. La Mamounia meant that it was the house of Mamoun, so as we surmised, Mamouna would be the feminine version of that name. I was only able to pack 4 tapes, but I did hear Slave to Love on the radio in Seville, Jealous Guy in Barcelona, and Valentine, of all things, in Pamukkale, Turkey. A hip-hop version of More Than This was popular around Turkey too. But alas, it is getting more and more difficult and expensive to find cybercafes, and to keep up with everything on this ever-active list. I planned to sign off back in April, but with the Flangebracket scam and then news of BF’s dates around Europe I kept putting it off. But I can’t much longer. Before I go, Mr. Martini, I must find out how to get a copy of Avalonia so I can sign off in peace. I realize that I have been a rather obscure (read: lame) member of this list, but have enjoyed the news and banter of it immensely. I will miss it. My rough itinerary for the next year or so is on my (quite rough) web site, and I would enjoy meeting up with fellow Avalonians around the globe if it works out. I’ll be here at Glastonbury until Monday, then off to Amsterdam. Au Revoir for now. They were at their musical peak with Jobson. On stage they could do anything, cover every tonal spectrum without having a 22-peice band. I think the '75 NY sounds far superior to most boots from the 70's and is quite possibly recorded at their peak as a live band.
