Has Kicki G (as in Great, or in some counties, Geordie) left the list? Where is her Worst Compilation? Was that too heavy for the petite Scandinavian? And what about the Best Compilation? Well, fear no more, I'm still here, still trying to find that damned cover I promised Arnie to scan and still yearning for M-M-M-Martinique. But putting together the lists took more time than I realised. First of all, I had to look through all the records. Some of them haven't really been on my playlist since...oh...1983 I'd guess, so there were quite a few song titles that meant absolutely nothing to me now. "To Turn You On"? "Spin Me Round"? "No Strange Delight"?? I have all the Roxy-records on CD except Flesh+Blood and Viva!, so I had to pull out the old stereo and try to remember how the record player should be handled. Talk about taking a trip down Memory Lane...all those lyrics on F+B...are they all about Jerry Hall? I remember thinking so back in 80-81. And what's No Strange Delight about - cocaine? Or Jerry once more? So, here are my lists. I have left out all solowork (I don't even own all of Ferry's records and none of the other members') and been strictly Roxyesque, even though Mart Stock writes " My main point is that Roxy and Ferry are inseparable". I belong to the stock conservative group in which we consider Roxy's first 5 plus Viva! as "the real" Roxy, and the last 3 as "nearly Roxy" (I feel it's safer if I don't say anything at all regarding Ferry's solowork...) The Ten Worst - in no particular order 1. Cry, Cry, Cry 2. My Little Girl 3. While My Heart Is Still Beating 4. The Bob 5. She Sells 6. Still Falls The Rain 7. Flesh and Blood 8. Tara 9. Would You Believe 10. Rain, rain, rain The Ten Best - in no particular order: 1. Mother of Pearl 2. The Thrill of it All 3. Street Life 4. Do the Strand (on Viva!) 5. Psalm 6. Casanova 7. End of the Line 8. More Than This 9. Out of the Blue 10. Couldn't agree with you more. When I now listened to Angel Eyes on my Manifesto picture disc (those where the days - it looked good but sounded awful) I found that the first version is better then the disco version. The latter didn't last very long after 1979. John Fohrman wrote: >Finally, I'm a musician, and primarily a vocalist. I'd say that Ferry peaked as a singer on Stranded and Country Life. His voice is much richer, broader, fuller, has a vider range altogether than in later years. He sounds passionate as hell on some tracks and old and disillusioned on others. He is able to _do_ more with his voice. But something happened after 1977 (Jerry again?). Suddenly his voice is pitched higher, he sounds indecisive and bland. That wonderful _manly_ quality got lost somehow. When I listen to Mamouna it's difficult to understand that this is the guy who used to sing "Mother of Pearl" and "The Thrill of it all"! (Please Martin, stay calm, count to 10, remember that this is MY opinion, not yours or the rest of the list's) I know my place is here with you tonight, but not together Kisskisskiss /Kicki G - --------------------------- Kicki Gustafsson http://www.torget.se/users/k/KickiG kicki.gustafsson@op.se - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jun 1999 17:32:05 EDT From: ASchulberg@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] notebooks In a message dated 6/13/99 2:11:36 PM Eastern Daylight Time, matanc@gusun.georgetown.edu writes: << Finally, welcome to Amy and Leighton. Tara??? I have to disagree here, I'm not a real big fan of some of the later Roxy stuff, but Tara is one of the few standouts. 2. Love is the Drug I don't care if it goes on the best or the worst, I've thought of it both ways, so it fits somewhere. 3. Oh Yeah Ahh, when the New Romantic music was new. Plus from my DJ work, I know this is a slow dance song that hasn't lost it's affect on people. 4. Mother of Pearl The only issue hear is why it doesn't get more respect. It's lyrically perfect and musically impressive. This should be in everyone's music collection. >1. Cry, Cry, Cry >2. My Little Girl >3. While My Heart Is Still Beating >4. The Bob >5. She Sells >6. Hello Fellow Obsessives! I've just watched a report on the BBC's News24 service (2.00AM UK Time) in which BF presented the Natwest Arts Prize in support of innovative new artists (some irony here methinks) Ferry reiterated his support of the arts and was described in the report as 'One of Britain's leading art collectors' Previously reported evidence of puffiness and dissolution were supported I fear, but Our Hero decided to forgo the crumpled khaki look in favour of a smart black ensemble. A slightly rounder face than I remember, and even some greying at the temples but pretty good for 53 nonetheless. Could this slightly higher public profile lately (Partridge etc) indicative of a gearing up for imminent new material? I've learned not to hold my breath.......
