Being a lover of lists I figured this would be as good a time as any to put in my two cents worth! By the way, I'm a fan of the whole Roxy/Ferry body of work. Avalon and Boys and Girls served as my introduction, but I've grown to love the full range of their music. Ok, here are my lists, starting with my favorites in no particular order: 1. Out of the Blue 2. Is Your Love Strong Enough 3. Avalon 4. Spin Me Round 5. Mother of Pearl 6. Pyjamarama 7. Song for Europe 8. More Than This 9. Like a Hurricane 10. My Only Love As you can see I' m a bit of a sap! I definitely have a tendency towards the dreamier, mellower sounding tracks. As for my least favorites, I can find something to like in almost all of the songs depending on my mood, but I can think of three that I'm never in much of a rush to hear: 1. Cry Cry Cry 2. Midnight Hour 3. Dance With Life So, there's my two cents. It's really fascinating reading all of your e-mails. I can not claim to possess the wealth of knowledge that some of you do regarding Roxy, but I am most definitely a fan! OK, I will agree on the dissonance is not always good, and High Road had many high points, like Can't Let Go, Avalon, Hurricane and My Only Love, (which by the way is ten times better on the Heart Still album version than the High Road version) but what I couldn't stomach on HR was the early stuff, especially Both Ends Burning and even Dance Away, it sounded like a Las Vegas show band, too bouncy for me, but then again I like the hated My Little Girl so what do I know? Hi, received this card in the post today saying, 'Remastered - Roxy Music & Bryan Ferry Limited Edition Repackaged CD's," miniature replicas of the original vinyl releases, reduced to cd size. The first five Roxy albums are to be released on 9.8.99, followed by the first five BF albums on 13.9.99. It also says to watch out for future releases, and gives the next five Roxy albums (including "Viva!" and "Hs Beating") and the next four BF albums. The cd's cost £10.99 each or £40 for all five (£1.95 p&p) To order phone 01494 471150 by 30th June to reserve your copy. Well, some things never change, even the remasters release dates have been put back! Received this myself too. Presumably these are going to be gatefold digipaks - not my favourite design but one which allows for the original format to be reproduced. What the advantage will be for albums which had no gatefold sleeve originally - i.e. most of them, I don't know. The £40 offer price though seems worth taking up. - -----Original Message----- From: JFROXY@aol.com To: avalon@smoe.org Date: Monday, June 14, 1999 5:39 PM Subject: [AVALON] Roxy/Ferry Remasters. >Hi, received this card in the post today saying, 'Remastered - Roxy Music & >Bryan Ferry >Limited Edition Repackaged CD's," miniature replicas of the original vinyl >releases, reduced to cd size. PS: I look (right now) like someone very relaxed, very jet-lagged, and very full of wine. and unshaven, too. Overproduced-No. Layered-Yes. It's a feast for the ears just like Boys and Girls. I get lost in the mix absorbing every note of every track. I hear it differently every time. I think it is a testament to Bryan that he could layer the tracks and still convey the passion/emotion without overwhelming the listner-you being the exception.
