There was a story about a year ago that he was working on a semi-autobiographical film about his early life in the North East. ______________________________________________________________________ The information in this email is confidential and may also be legally privileged. Ten to fifteen years ago (or whenever it was that Liebstraum was released) Figgis was the guy who used to be in a band with Bryan Ferry. Ever since Leaving Las Vegas, Bryan Ferry has been in danger of becoming the guy who used to be in a band with Mike Figgis. I didn't find a review on the Q Magazine site. johnny adams was a new orleans r&b singer with a great local reputation, but national recognition more or less eluded him. he was known as 'the tan canary' for his beautiful voice. and yes, he died recently of cancer after completing his last record. his cd's are available on musicblvd.com along with some biographical info. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Apr 1999 21:32:22 +0100 From: "Killip family" Subject: [AVALON] "Good Drum Talk" and Gas Board Jim Spellman suggested that the drummer on Flesh and Blood was Allan Schwartzberg...and Jim was right, but the sleeve notes also credit Andy Newmark and our old buddy Simon Philips (it's a small world!)..that's why I referred to Newmark as "the album drummer". J.O'B flagged up the appearance of Paul Thompson on a video of "Over You", proving that PT was still doing Roxy stuff at the time of F+B, even though he wasn't on the album, nor the tour. I need time to check, but I'm pretty sure that PT also appears on another F+B related video, being "Oh Yeah", recorded from the British music programme "Top of the Pops". None of this solves the mystery of why he didn't tour though, if we believe what he told me that the "broken thumb" legend was baloney. Incidentally, I agree with J O'B about the Paul Stump book, which I was generally very disappointed with. What did others think of it...(I've only started posting recently, forgive me if you've had this debate). As to PT writing "Your Application's Failed", I couldn't say, but it's definately his voice that utters those words on the track. Mark Sturdy asked about the Gas Board member who became a film director...this was (as Paul Stump did mention!) Mike Figgis ("Leaving Las Vegas" "The Browning Version"and others). I'm afraid I don't know the complete Gas Board line up. I never heard of any Banshee tapes etc. Mark, but you never know. And to Daniel Atterbom, please accept my unreserved apologies...it appears my vision is now as impaired as my keyboard skills. (Evening Standard info. on its way). Can anyone help with the conundrum developing here...on the "Total Recall" video two sequential clips are the videos of "Same old Scene" and "Oh Yeah". The drummer in each case is a different guy..neither of these men is PT or Andy Newmark, and I don't think either of them is Simon Philips. (Probably something to do with being on the same label, Polydor). He also plays on the promo video. You never see his face on the video, but he plays 'open handed' which you can see from his silhoette on the video. He played with Robert Palmer. The Flesh and Blood drummer was Schwartzberg. He played on more tracks than anyone else. It may have been him on the Same old Scene vid but I'm not sure. Newmark played only on two or three while Phillips only made a 'contribution' to My Only Love I think. There you go.
