Well Bahi, I rushed back from the pub forced to leave a game of pool half way through just to see our hero for only two minutes. And even if it was the worst episode of Alan Partridge I've ever seen and Bryan's dialogue was limited to "Mmmmmm" and 'Oh I'm buying property up here" it was still well worth it just to see our man on the box for the first time in 5 years. I wonder could somebody who taped it mail the complete dialogue. Obviously Bryan is a big Partridge fan because he couldn't keep his face straight, though what he was laughing at I'm still not sure. Dressed quite well too though the sands of time are finally starting to show on his face. And I think that's the first time I've ever seen him wear reading glasses. I'm sure his reason for appearing must have been just to surprise everyone. "What the hell is Bryan Ferry doing on Alan Partridge". My only regret is that we didn't get a duet between Bryan and Tony Ferrino. Oh well, maybe next time. Uh, wait--you mean you guys fill out these surveys with REAL information? Colleen P.S. That page takes FOREVER to download and is riddled with Java errors. (deep in the heart of the american waste ... er, heartland where there is reportedly some type of "video commercial" going on currently with bryan ferry music and stuff.) we three (well, actually four) happy-go-lucky (and crazy, maddened -- well, insane, really ...) souls decided to meet to discuss this and many, many other seriously important issues facing mankind today. that's right -- read it and weep you poor bastards! heather, kim and i all got together, along with my really part-time ferry fan/ girlfriend jan to check each other out and discuss the really important issues regarding bryan, roxy and this very list. what, you ask?! well, my friend -- just take our first pressing question of the night ... like, who on the list could possibly be gay?! it's really unfortunate that this particular issue took up the majority of our time, but -- you know ... we must know these things, damn it!! edification - for all you non-academic types!! it was a typical winter day here - five to ten feet of snow or so (i'll leave the metrics to others more gifted than myself). of course, jan and i were the first ones on the scene (snow shoes). i stood outside and sang 'o sole mio', as i usually do when confronted with a crowd of strangers in a blizzard, asking (in-between verses), "kim -- is that you?! kim?! are you kim?!". after fifteen or so of these 'in-yo-face' type of inquiries, i retired to the safe haven of our own little euro-like local bistro-thing. soon, heather joined us, kindly offered me a tape of 'musikladen' (yea!) which to borrow and i responded with a combustible edison cd. yes, that's right -- no bry-bry dinner invitation, as i had thrown mine out years and years ago ('73?). further inquiries of unsuspecting customers followed. a half an hour passed. heather and i realized we'd been amiss in our efforts to descriptively i.d. ourselves to miss kim. oh no! then an image of my saying (to kim) that heather somewhat resembled jerry hall and myself, well ... nevermind. no sooner than this imaged caused in myself a somewhat involuntary contraction, someone approached our table ... , "are you kim?! are you?!" why, yes it was. "heather ... mark?" kim recounted her saga of how, as she was driving to our meeting, she was playing her favorite bryan ferry tune. so enveloped in the music was she that, after adjusting the volume, she then was made aware that her car was no longer on the paved portion of what we call a "highway". she was made aware of this fact by the various screeching sounds, thumps and her own screaming(!). well, to make a long story short; down the embankment, up to the other side and -- god knows how -- smack onto a car carrier in the only available space. 'thank you bryan ferry!!!!'. the carrier driver, having realized the situation, pulled over at the next exit. turns out kim only missed us by one exit after all!! phew!! next utterance from someone involved the word 'drink ... i need a drink ...'. from our espressos, cafe mochas and coffee, we moved onto the world of our local irish pub. i don't know if our man tending the bar was an irishman himself, but i'd go so far as to say -- well ... his martini was not really up to par, as it were (this made me somewhat grimfaced, being amero-euro-irish myself -- no matter). barring this minor disappointment, we then all began to consume our pints of guiness and bass ale, each to their own tastes. kim, ever the entrepeneurial spirit, produced a tote bag, laden with practically every profile from our maestro's namesake e-mailing list. we laughed and laughed, but of course -- drank more than we laughed. in between landing on her plane from chicago and having her near-death experience, kim saw to plans involving a somewhat lurid bachelorette party she's planning for a good friend. dare not ask what this *amoral* endeavor entails, for i have been sworn to secrecy! unless it involves guiness, of course ... heather, of course, trumped us all with her new job title, 'web *master*'. this being just shy of 'supreme commander' -- we sat in awe. more software techno-jargon -- flying so fast it's impossible to follow! how does she do it?! my god, it's incredible!! and, she has her own office to boot ... woo-hoo! well, several pints later ... "where did our waitress go, that tart?!" and a few au toilette experiences later, kim left us -- avowing to meet up yet again (at a later undisclosed date and place). next was jan (relieved of course -- having suffered through all of our hyper-ferry-related blathering) who said something about ... 'oh, go ahead and *have* another guiness, damn it!'. left to our own devices, heather and i did just that ... and, well, i have to admit to some coffee later (for driving purposes). after solving nearly *all* of the world's problems, heather and i departed and parted ways, fully realizing just how much of the guiness corporate conglomeration we'd patronized this evening. all in all, a great evening had by all!! peaces/ms p.s. we've postponed the strip poker for a later date. i am planning on ... ahem, um ... raking in all the chips, so to speak ...
