Consider 2 points however a) He didn't appear on Fantasy Football last summer when billed to do so b) Alan Partridge (Steve Coogan) is potentially the most dangerous comic character to appear with ; (reminder) Partridge is a failed TV chat show host who ends up doing a 4 a.m. radio show on a provincial station. His desperate efforts to get back to mainstream showbiz are hilarious and cringemaking. My greatest fear is that Bryan's career path is somehow compared to Partridge's, however satirically. Hello all! Over the past couple of days I've noticed a couple of Roxy/Ferry things I thought i'd share. 1) In this weeks issue of NW (New Weekly) there is a photo of Nick Cave and Bryan at a fashion show (which I think was discussed here a week or two ago) The comment says something along the lines that they are both really cool and that Bryan is so hip that he is going for the old farmer look a year before it comes in (a reference to his attire). Not really funny at all. 2) I was playing pool at a Brisbane pub called the Normanby and decided to check the jukebox for any Roxy or Ferry. The jukebox had Love is the Drug - Roxy Music on one disc which I of course put on. Later I flicked through the rest and saw another disc with Love is the Drug but it was credited to Bryan Ferry. Needless to say, the Normanby was treated to another listen. (I was actually suprised to see a couple of drunken guys sitting in the corner singing along). 3) This Sunday channel 10 is showing Casino for the first time in Australia. They are running a competition to win a four wheel drive to promote the movie. The ad for the competition has (as you can all probably guess) Love is the Drug playing in the background. That's all for now, but I'll keep a lookout in case I see anything else of interest. And upon reflection I should add that the Stranded and Country Life sleeves straddled the State lines between biscuit-tin kitsch and sexploitation. >Has it ever been published? If not, it should be. I await your commission. The way my business is these days I could do with a little extra.... On another tack. I return once again to the thorny issue of Prairie Rose. In Jonny Rogan's book Roxy Music "Style With Substance" he makes it clear that this final cut from Country life is an undisguised paean to Jerry. Other articles suggest that Bry met the Texan clotheshorse on the rocky cliffs of Anglesey on the Siren shoot - at least 9 months later. Enlightenment anyone ? Those who were unable to see it might be less frustrated when they know that Bryan only appeared for a minute or so. Looked pretty unpuffy and way cool. Possibly a shade dissolute, but all the better for it. Didn't spot any khakis, rumpled or otherwise. He took all the abuse very well. The show was either thoroughly rehearsed or (more likely, given all those Ferry-only reaction shots) prerecorded. Great clobber, too. Martin - not sure how much space is available on that compilation now but if there's room, a minute of scene-setting Partridge wouldn't go amiss, given that the clip might otherwise reduce to tears Avalonians unfamiliar with the legendary DJ's approach.
