He is nothing if not traditional, old-fashioned and somewhat courtly in his view of women. The other side of "putting them on a pedestal" is that the women on Sirens or Roxy Music appear clownish and slightly ridiculous. Why don't we criticize his obsession with Motown etc. next? Maybe he's "colonizing" American blacks, or "appropriating their culture." There's nothing '90s about Bryan Ferry. Isn't that good? You NAILED it!!! Thank God there is NOTHING 90's about Ferry!!! No grunge, no 90's bullshit attitude. I think the 70's and 80's suited him well. Thanks for that profound observation. You can view their stock at their website - www.action-records.co.uk They are based in England and are therefore ideal for UK fans although I think they ship abroad also. Hope this is of use to someone. Richard *Take care not to confuse with the 4 track 'Mamouna' single which is similarly described - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Mar 1999 02:28:24 -0000 From: "Richard" Subject: [AVALON] Re: Music of the millennium To those of you who don't know Channel 4 TV and HMV Record shops here in the UK are doing a music of the millennium poll, aiming to attract 100,000 votes - making it the most definitive poll of UK musical tastes ever taken. With so much for voters to choose from it may be a struggle for Bryan / Roxy to find a place there but votes are divided into categories and hey - if we don't vote we can't complain about the outcome. I haven't read the conditions but it may well be the case that the poll is open to UK residents only. You can find out more - and vote - by going to www.motm.co.uk There is scope to register votes for Bryan as songwriter / best vocalist and Roxy as best group (unless, horror of horrors you have others in mind!) plus name best song (my choice - "Avalon") and best album (mine "For Your Pleasure"). Roxy Music is my favorite band but I've always wondered why VH1 always leaves them out of their specials and Top 100 bands list. Does anyone know when Bryan's new album is coming out?
