I think the Viva! BEB really kicks ass, I like it better than the studio version. I agree the Siren's sound ghastly. Maybe they were better on the slower songs. I saw Roxy in '76, but the Siren's were gone by then (Fort Wayne, Indiana, opened for ELO, played to a disinterested crowd, almost all of Siren, about half of Country Life, closed with a Do the Strand/Editions of You medley). I remember reading a Ferry interview of the time in which he said the Siren's were necessary because of all the vocal overdubs on the Siren material. (Strange, I can't imagine them singing "End of the Line".) - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Mar 1999 11:16:16 EST From: ASchulberg@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Looks << But a more interesting exercise might be to pick out the "looks" that failed. Ferry was never better looking than he was in 1985 (Ladies??). Some of the "sheet music" that comes out is inacurate, and interpreted by some piano player who has never heard the song before. He learns it in 20 minutes and then goes on to the next song in the stack. Sounds as if this is not the case with "Off The Record"? It was the night of the only Grammy Awards show I ever missed when John&Yoko were on and Bette Midler wore a 45 RPM record as a chapeau.) the Sirens were supposed to appease the manly men in the audience just like the album covers did (in Bryan's mind anyway...).
