Can't say that I'm a Coronation Street fan but I've seen it a few times and this Les guy is one of the funniest people on British TV. If he does make a vain attempt to become a Ferry lookalike then I demand that it goes on the "Avalonia" compilation tape. As a rock journalist said a few years ago elements Roxy seem to pop up in the most unlikely of places and I can't think of anything stranger than this. As long as Bryan doesn't do for Coronation Street what the guy in Spandau Ballet did for Eastenders. Please Nooooooooooo. Its a complete British institution and is watched by more people than any other television programme here. I can imagine that there are people watching it saying "Who the hell is Bryan Ferry". Well as Martin told us last week he's already appeared in one soap opera and after that I wouldn't put anything beyond the man. Thank Christ Hilda Ogden isn't in it anymore because old Bryan is almost at an age where she'd be the only one left for him to date or come off the stage and snog during Mackays duckwalk solo on Editions Of You. Oh what a thought. I'm suddenly not feeling too good. Gareth PS Eastenders is another soap opera and the biggest opposition to Coronation Street. Martin Kemp (think thats the name of the guy in Spandau Ballet) is currently making a cameo appearance as a DJ or something. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Mar 1999 15:06:41 -0600 From: Kimberly Shell Subject: RE: [AVALON] BF st cool London party -Reply -Reply -Reply <> Ok, so it's like a nighttime soap or is it on during the day - sounds pretty popular to say the least! <> Oh YEAH - I read that also! There's a few points I'd like to take up concerning your reply >favourable US album reviews v. a largely indifferent UK press, I see the music press here in Britain as quite good but also easily led. I think they have already made up their minds nowadays that they are going to write a bad review on Bryan before they actually listen to his material. Thay base this on the fact that "Oh Bryan Ferry...haven't heard of him in a long time...must be crap now". They think that because he's not been in the public eye recently that nobody is interested in his stuff anymore. The public certainly think like this because they've never heard of a "studio musician". In saying this Mamouna did get quite a number of good reviews but as soon as it had flopped in the album charts the rock encyclopedias all dismissed it as a piece of rubbish. All they can be described as is a flock of sheep. >As for the NME I'd be surprised if Bryan or many of his fan's any longer >attach any importance to what this paper says. I would imagine that people >who buy or are likely to buy Bryan's music are mainly of an age (yourself >and Stephen being obvious exceptions!) where, if they buy a music mag at >all, it's likely to be "Mojo" or the like The reason I said the NME would write a review is because I don't think Mojo would waste its time writing about something like Dance With Life. Neither the NME OR Melody Maker interest me in the slightest. They are in the same mould as the SUN newspaper. Mojo is a very good magazine, as is Uncut although I rarely see people of my age buying them. On another matter completely: is that really Sal Maida on Street Life in Recall. Always thought that was Gustaffson whom I cannot picture at all now. Yet another matter is the trivia question I sent in last week. It was "Which classsic Bryan Ferry song was almost destroyed by a photographer clicking over the top of it?" Nobody has answered this yet, so I'll give you until tomorrow night. Good luck, Gareth. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Mar 1999 23:15:45 +0100 From: Kicki Gustafsson Subject: Re: [AVALON] A very small Ferry convention > We are meeting this Friday (March 4) in Camden Town - a stone's >throw from the legendary Roxy Roundhouse gig of 1973 that changed my life - >and will visit a number of bars. Kicki and Daniel - I just picked up a Scandanavian cookbook. Do Swedes really eat leg of lamb with coffee? Is it good that way? Do you think I should try to make it? Perhaps with some Tusenbladstarta (thousand leaves cake) for dessert? I tried to make Danish Frikadeller (meatballs) the other night. It was so easy! Anders said I put too much lemon in, though.
