It just takes time to itemise alll the material. When I've got a spare couple of hours this week I'll do it. I can't overestimate the fact that a lot of the material contains duplications and/or unwatchable quality. Example 1 : Bryan is promoting Boys and Girls around Europe and performs Slave to Love on different TV shows in Holland, Belgium, Sweden, UK and Germany. Each time with the same backing band, the same outfit and the same staging. Each performance is mimed to the same single version. Now does the most obsessive fan really want all five versions on the tape ? Why not pick the best 2, preferably with an interesting interview ...or even a live performance... Example 2 : Bryan is promoting Taxi globally and different countries decide to hook a Ferry / Roxy special around the promotion. What you tend to get is a half hour show punctuated with old promo videos (that would present a copyright jag if we showed them and we've all got them anyway,) of which, say, 10 minutes is quality interview. Within that 10 minutes at least 5 will be very familiar - and often badly researched - questions. The remaining 5 minutes may contain some unusual material; insights into his childhood, what current music he likes and so forth. Obviously we edit it down to 5 minutes of interesting anecdotes - thereby enjoying his haircut and insights without wading through familiar footage. Example 3 : We have footage of the In Your Mind tour in Japan ( with Spedding + Kokomo band) but the quality is so poor one can barely make out who's who on stage. To play all 40 minutes of the gig would be interminable. (Much better to hear Han's CD-R bootleg of that tour) However I would show 1 or 2 songs just to get a flavour of the gig. Now our latest idea is to attempt to package the whole 4 hour tape in a Puxleyesque manner. With a stylish cover, graphics and overlays giving details of the footage. If you dont like the end result there's nothing to stop you asking the list for the tapes and doing your own thing. We hope that our tape will turn out to be better than Total Recall - which I found quite flawed - and 4 times as long to incorporate all the decent material. It may sound like a dream come true to sift through the footage, but I would much rather just get a copy of what you have described. Thanks for contributing your time and discretion. Pip, pip. Question (that I still cannot answer): What was the very last Roxy Music concert? Answer (that I THINK is correct): The lowest selling studio album by Roxy would surely have been the first one. If we take concert releases into consideration then it would have to be Concert Classics. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Feb 1999 17:43:16 -0500 From: jspellman@banet.net Subject: Re: [AVALON] Trivia gareth mc ginley wrote: > Answer (that I THINK is correct): The lowest selling studio album by > Roxy would surely have been the first one. I was hopingsomeone would know the answer and no one would call me on it. I read in a 1977 interview with Bryan, him saying that by far "Viva" sold the least amount of copies. Yes that would be 22 years ago and would includes live albums. For studio albums, my guess would be the 1st album as well. It had to be one of the first four. I think Avalon was the best seller.
