I'll be honest. I didn't really believe it. ...Until this morning when I actually saw it. John O'brien sent me a box containing 12 (twelve) videotapes this week for the Avalonia project. My labour of love has been to view the contents of this treasure chest. Whilst dipping a marmite soldier into my boiled egg this morning I was idly perusing tape *11 when something entitled "Hotel Bouque" came up on the screen. An everyday story of a Parisian Guest House that just happens to have Le Groupe Roxy Musique staying over during their tour. Imagine Fawlty Towers directed by Francois Truffaut. Le patron has an improbably beautiful wife who Bryan appears to seduce right under his gallic nose. Lots of dreamy shots of Bry swanning around the City Of Light, consuming copious amounts of Disque Bleu, chatting up Mrs Patron in Franglais whilst harking back to the Late Madame Bouque, a previous lover, who has apparently died since his last tour. The band is played by actors seemingly cast by someone convinced that all Rock Stars look like the Eagles. The final scene is especially surreal as the real Roxy perform Editions of You in a real concert and during Andy's duckwalk solo Ferry jumps into the wings for a swig of fizz and a snog with Mrs Patron. The edition of the soap lasts half an hour and I can't see how I can edit it for the TV compilation. It may have to go on Avalonia in its entirity. Even when it is excrutiatingly embarassing it still makes for compelling viewing. At one point Bry insists on taking the "band" (+ groupies) into the hotel's kitchen to prepare an impromptu meal. What a guy ! I don't know how you got this tape John, but thanks a lot. Isn't that fair? And maybe there should be one tape for interviews, one tape for performances--maybe even one performance tape for 70s Roxy and one for 80s, since so many of us have a preference. I know I'd pay extra for ALL of it (definitely including the sitcom)! RED PS. Again I offer my work services as at my job we have capalities for all different formats (although I couldn't make mass copies). PPS.
