We are close to having all the tapes in from our global community. The quality and diversity of what we've got so far should ensure a fabulous end product. To recap : We are assembling a tape of material that has never been seen on an official video, eg High Road, New Town, Total recall. This leaves loads of great interviews, (some hilarious, some melancholy, but all packed with Ferryesque vignettes,) and TV performances of all our favourites, and more. A moment's pleasure or a lasting treasure ? I hope the latter. Tomorrow I intend to post a list of all the material garnered thus far. An exhaustive process but necessary. Only then can those new to Avalon see if they've squirreled away some unmissable clip, and send it to me accordingly. When we have edited all the different pieces from all the different formats on to a Master tape, and only then, we'll alert the list and give details of how to mail out copies to subscribers on your selected format. My technical friends assure me that the gallery of video formats does not present a problem. Jason Gibbs has kindly offered the assistance of his video company, with graphic design possibilities ; I now think we can produce a stylish video rather than a cut and paste job. Thanks for your patience ; this project has encountered and, hopefully, overcome many logistical problems. Martino PS If I sound down its because I have a searing toothache in my upper east side. Sounds like you like Combustible Edison! I have heard one or two things by them. They're pretty good. Have you heard Martin Denny? I think he was their prototype. I have these old albums called "Sounds Terrific! The Chorus and PErcussin of Keith Textor," which reminds me a lot of Combustible Edison. Very 60's lounge. Supporting the film is a representative collection of late-'70s and early-'80s new-wave pop-rockers. The Ramones nail down the ferocious end of the spectrum ("I Don't Care"), but the emphasis is on straight pop with Nick Lowe ("Cruel to Be Kind"), the Cars ("Just What I Needed"), Joe Jackson ("It's Different for Girls") and the Go-Go's ("Our Lips Are Sealed"). Roxy Music deliver the sensuous "More Than This." Dire Straits' epic "Romeo and Juliet" is a tad out of place among the slam-bang pop-rock. Modern rockers Girls Against Boys effectively cover Earth, Wind and Fire's "Boogie Wonderland." Blondie contribute "In the Flesh" and a special megamix of "Rapture," plus two newer songs from their comeback effort. --Rob O'Connor - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Feb 1999 21:19:15 -0500 From: "Michael Greenberg" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Re: 200 cigarettes ST Just saw an ad on TV for this and they were playing More Than This as Trailer. I thought their covers were really strong, Gershwin, Cole Porter, JobimBurt Bacharach etc.. great stuff, bought one of their CD's years ago, I was very disapointed, it didn't come close to the live gig. Their originals didn't really grab me, too bad considering the success of such bands as Squirrel Nut Zippers, CE would certainly have a chance at airplay with a decent song.
