This friend of mine used to be a stage manager for our "Summerfest" celebration here in Milwaukee, which is probably a fairly well known event. Supposed to be one of the biggest yearly music events in at least the US. It's about 11 days long and there are about 12 different stages. It's huge. So one year he get's put in charge of the stages at "Winterfest" (only ran one year I think) and Bo Diddley is the headliner one night. My friend, knowing that I have an extensive guitar collection calls me out of the blue and says Bo Diddley is playing tonight and his backup band got all their stuff ripped off in Chi. and would I want to come down and meet him and rent his guitar player my custom painted "74 Strat and see the show. The Strat was a beauty, custom painted Corvette Classic White, Bill lawrence Blade pickups and a maple neck, ooh it was sweet. So I went, I met, I rented and I saw the show. I think my buddy got me $40 for the gig. It was pretty cool seeing that guy playing my axe, not Bo he plays that square thing that matches his hat. I think my buddy even said "hey the guy wants to know if you'd sell your Strat" and of course it was not for sale. Bo was friendly and pretty cool, he shook my hand and stuff. will tfagan wrote: > at a Clash/Bo Diddley/Alex Bevan concert at Cleveland's Agora (THOSE were > the days), I asked Bo, "excuse me is this seat taken? Sure you can hear Bowie, Ferry, Cure, ABC even, but the voice is very peculiar. Not for everyone though. But, how many male vocalists could cover Diana Ross' "Love Hangover" and pull it off better than she? I have only Sulk, I think the 4th album. I read the earlier albums were more guitar, less synths. I was the 7th person in line, out of the 1st 17 people only 2 for Ferry, 15 for Perry (can you believe it?) just me and the very 1st guy in line- for Bryan couldn't believe it! I was stunned. I was pissed because I would have been 2nd if it was just Bryan's tix going on sale, knowing there were 10 other tickmasters opening at the same time. Nevertheless I was in 1st 6 rows I thought. I hung with the Perry fans and we actually had a good time sitting on the cold asphalt for hours together, watching hundreds of people line up behind us. 10 minutes before they open, we hear "8 ticket limit". Then out of nowhere the 1st kid tells me "I'm only getting 4" Then I knew what he was going to offer, The next Ferry fan was buried behind 10 Perry's. He offered to buy my tix. His name was Anthony. I gave him all my cash, a total stranger, my heart beating way too fast, the window opens, "seven, best available" said Anthony. He takes the tickets, looks at them, "row DD" he tells me. What the hell, I'm thinking sounds like row 30. We ask, "No, this is the Orpheum DD is the 1st row. Holy smokes! We saw him at the show, but never since, I love you always Anthony where ever you are.
