I think doing ANY kind of endorsement makes you give up your dignity. So why not take any and all offers? I mean, is Donald Sutherland any less asinine than Ed McMahon? I ended up seeing the movie three times and I came to the conclusion that there wasn't really a "Roxy" band or a "Bowie" band. The three bands that performed the music throughout the movie didn't really stick to one particular style, for instance the band that was doing "the ballad of Maxwell Demon" an obvious take-off of Ziggy Stardust, were later doing a Roxy cover. If you haven't seen the movie and you get a chance then my advice is to definitely go and see it, but don't try and make any sense of the sub plot and don't try and follow any chronological order of characters and music, I did and it ended up doing my head in. I was lucky enough to rent and copy Her videos Live at the Hammersmith Odeon and another one probably called The Whole Story or One Woman's Work. One is most of her studio vids and the other is a live thing obviously. The live thing has an unbelievable version of James and the Cold Gun. Very hot. Very theatrical and also quite the hard rock piece for her. You haven't seen Kate Bush until you've seen James...I've also got the Peter Gabriel video with 2 different versions of his duet with her of Don't Give Up. You may have seen one of those on MTV. The whole song they are in an embrace and the camera turns around them slowly and as they face the camera they do their parts. Pretty cool but no James...she kills at least 3 or 4 guys in that one...really cool. The Cloudbusting video has Donald Southerland in it and I love that song. Hounds of Love and The Sound That Kills are also high points on the studio vid, actually most of it is pretty good. Oh well maybe some rich English bloke should buy Ford. I noticed that the new Jag sedan looks alot like the new Lincoln Town Car which is way stylish, but you guys know I'm partial to Lincolns. Rolls even has a model that looks curiously like the new Town Car. Yes there's nothing like tooling around in a big old Lincoln Town Car (oh no there he goes again) with the "Premium Sound" system cranking some Your Painted Smile or some other late period Bryan Ferry (because it's the best and certainly the most conducive of this type of behavior, which might be referred to as feeling decadently elegant) feeling the rich supple leather seats beneath your derry, encapsulated by the flagship of western automotive technology. The noisy chaotic world outside drifts silently by...hey wait a minute is the engine even running. Oh no were parked. Oh shit the drugs are wearing off. Hey did any of you guys see Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. It was great. I just saw it on vid and really liked it. In fact I feel a certain kinship to the drug sucking characters in the film. Of course that was a long time ago. It's a remake of Where the Buffalos Roam in which Bill Murry played Hunter S. I thought Gillian did as good a job as possible in bringing the book to the big screen. Of course, Thompson`s writing is what made the book (as well as all of his works) so great. Anyone can film a guy throwing up out of a car, but you can`t film a "300 lb. Samoan in Spanish wrap-around sun glasses doing the big spit over the side of the White Whale". Despite all of Thompson`s short-comings, he had great insight and a wonderful use of the English language. Try to get a copy of the DVD version. It has about 15 minuets of extra footage cut from the movie and video including the scene in the bar where Hunter and his attorney traumatize the Georgia State Trooper. It's a shame that when I hear "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" sung by Marvin Gaye/Tammy Terrel (both dead long before the Burger King commercial) I now no longer think of a special time in my life when I was in love. Now I think of Double Whoppers, onion rings, heartburn and diarrhea. Namely, his long-lost Jerry is about to re-enter the eligibility market soon! I would like to know what everyone thinks about this. Do you think Bryan can and will trade in Lucy for another girl, or will Jerry have to cry her heart out, like Bryan did his? Ciao! (forgive me for being catty, but I just moved to a new town, don't have a job yet, and I'm bored of searching the online job sites). Would he be there to 'comfort' Jerry? Even if none of these scenarios play out, would he be 'thinking of me...well, I don't know, now do I?' After all, he has Lucy and the 4 boys now...Is he happily married? Hmmmm. If I had a chance with Bryan, well...oh, wait a minute, I am getting off-topic here. Anyway, I do not look at Jerry the Babe-A-Liscious 70's Goddess and think, "Ha ha, she has here justn desserts, now." No way. I feel really sorry for her...giving this man (Mick) 21 years of the BEST young years of her life to that undeserving Stone....birthing his babies while he is Bonin' Down with some waif-looking model somewhere and not even being smart enough to protect himself from unwanted Fatherhood...even BEING with these chicks, sleazin' around is so uncool. Jerry is probably every Rock Star's dream...wild and Beautiful. So I wonder...Even though Bryan, Our Man is one of those Rock Star boys, I am willing to bet that he does not sleaze around on Lucy....well, I could be NAIVE...but I have such high regard for the man. Would he have been True to Jerry??? I bet, moreso than Mick has...Sad, those children are so beautiful, so innocent, now having to see some NOBODY from South America being pregnant (possibly) with THEIR sibling!! Gee, thanks, Pop! Well, the only thing good about this whole mess for me is... I get to buy magazines with the Beautiful Jerry on them...But I am truly heartbroken for her...what she is suffering is the Ultimate Humiliation. Okay, I gotta come up for air!!! You object because you think that Lennon himself might have preferred Reebok? (also, do you own any Nike merchandise? I am in a rather Puckish mood today and I am compelled to ask.) Besides, he's left this earthly vale, no? I too am (obviously) spending a lot of time thinking about this. Not because I like scandals (I could care less about Monica Lew-whatever), but just because it all seems like the makings of a novel, Bryan and Mick both practically fighting over this mere American, Bryan finally getting over her, but writing a hell of a lot of wonderful lovelorn music at the very time he loses her, then fizzling out soon after. I have always wondered if Jerry was his true muse, and his all time love. If so, that would be so romantic, but as Dawne says, so hard for all the children caught in the middle of this. Will these rock stars and media goddesses continue to follow their hearts and their libidos in this matter, or will they maintain the status quo and play out their mature, responsible lives, prioritizing their children. Will Bryan be re-inspired to create more music by this course of events? Will I ever find a job? None of these questions are certain, but one thing is - I will never make as much money as a web programmer as Jerry Hall will from her ex-husband. Jerry is probably every Please don't misunderstand me: what has happened seems very sad, as it does whether the people involved are famous or obscure, and in this case it is made even more pathetic by Mick's attempt to claim he has not been married to her all of these years. He is--and this is the only word which comes to mind even though I am sure it lacks it's cutting sense in this day and age--a cad. But that being said, she, as the old song goes, knew he was a snake when she picked him up, no? So perhaps the bite was inevitable. > Jerry-who-would-have-been-Ferry...would he leave Lucy for her? Not to mention the time she spent birthing his babies. I can't help but say it: Speaking only for myself, I think this kind of speculation, even as it is offered without any malicious intent, is, at the very least, unappealing. I mean, one very public long time marriage has broken up. Why hope that another one will too?
