Any reviews out there? > Its a really quirky set of Coward covers organised by Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys) and performed by (often eccentric) English artists. A lot of the contributers share the cultivation of a Ferry/Coward lounge lizard persona. Divine Comedy, Suede, Space. Like most compilations its all a bit hit and miss, but I love it. Bryan's choice, "I'll see you again," is delivered in the coctail bar style of These Foolish Things, tinkling piano etc, and is clearly an affectionate tribute to The Master. An even better track, I think, is Marianne Faithfull's cockney rendition of Mad About The Boy, which friends assure me was originally Cowards crie de couer to the 20s matinee idol Valentino. There's certainly 4 or 5 great songs, 2 or 3 complete nightmares and the rest are at least interesting. With regard to the 20th Century Blues Album I love Bryan's rendition of I'll See You Again and thoroughly agree with whoever it was said that Marianne Faithfull's version of Mad About The Boy was excellent. She was equally excellent when she sang it live on the Concert performance of the album (unfortunately, BF did not appear). The tracks are Side A The Bogus Man Trash Both Ends Burning Rain, Rain, Rain Flesh and Blood Side B Oh Yeah Song for Europe My Only Love Eight Miles High The sleeve says Recorded Live in Paris. There's no date. My turntable doesn't work too well, so it's hard to tell about the quality. It seems good. IMO, very nice versions of Oh Yeah, Song for Europe and My Only Love. My favourite for several reasons is one called "Living Just For Fun". It's from Wolverhampton 1995. The sound quality is excellant and the sleeve shows Bryan in a rare shot (All sweaty, not Mr sartorial elegance, and he has a keyboard around his neck like a guitar.) The sleeve notes are really informative, but most of all they mention my home town. I picked it up at a record fare, I have only seen it once in Record Collector magazine, so I think it's quite rare. Here's a list of what I know I have: Whistle Test Extra (1 hr) This is Tomorrow (Richard Hamilton, Ferry - about an hour, perhaps) Various TOTP appearances: Spell, Love Strong Enough?, and others The Tube's own Boys & Girls video plus (separately) the intro in which Ferry plays chauffeur. (1985/86) An extract of some program that has Ferry talking about Mamouna. Only a few minutes long, and the first bit's missing. If anyone has a better copy, go with that but if not, let me know. A description, to help identify it: it ends on the Yr Painted Smile vid (I think) and includes David Williams talking about how, during the recording of Bete Noire, he didn't know who Ferry was and was asking "Bryan, do you actually have a record deal?" while, in the background, Pat Leonard was desparately trying to get him to shut up. Also, Ferry saying that he hoped this was the album people wanted to hear, because it was certainly the album he'd been wanting to make. Familiar? (1994) Used to have what I think was a 30 minute Tube special about L.A., circa 1986, featuring Ferry and Malcolm MacLaren. It was good but I lost it. I'm in Wales over the week-end (which is where all the old videotapes above are) and will look again for that Danny Baker thing but don't hold out much hope: I couldn't find it last time I looked. This bootleg has been re-bootlegged for over 20 years now and there doesn`t seem to be an end in sight. It obvious it`s still very popular or no one would risk the cash to reissue it. I can`t help to wonder how much this boot as brought in. The Champagne Novocain is pretty good . Some studio stuff, including the Numberer, two songs live w/ Jobson and some live stuff with Eno who is as noisy as ever on this. The other is First Kiss, different BBC sessions some of which the quality is as good if not better than the 1st album. Lot's of songs from the 1st album. The very best for me is '75 NY/London The sound from one location is good, from the other is phenomenal (She Sells, Mother of Pearl etc...) I think that is the London portion of the boot. Another favorite is Ferry's All Night Operator. Sound is not a 10, but the energy is. From '77 In Your Mind tour.
