Since this may be the best chance that we'll ever have of getting a quality job done I appeal to everyone to send in their tapes. If you want to see the list of appearances then you can access it via the Avalon archives: The address for the particular date I posted the list is: http://www.smoe.org/lists/avalon/vo3.n299 It looks like John Fulton is not willing to participate but it would be appreciated if the following people would send their clips: Gene (we badly want that Stockholm 76 show) Edward Folkmann (LITD on Letterman) Bahi Para (94 Danny Baker) We would also like to know what Gerritt Hillebrand, and Will have on tape. Martin misunderstood the list thinking I had most of the early recordings which was not the case. As a result still on top of the wanted list are the following: 1974: Twiggy (What a Wonderful World) 1972: Old Grey Whistle Test (debut TV performance-Ladytron & 2HB) Regards, Gareth. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Jan 1999 11:58:23 PST From: "gareth mc ginley" Subject: [AVALON] Heart Still Beating A few weeks ago somebody mentioned that"The High Road" video sounded quite different to the "Heart Still Beating" album. Well I've come to the conclusion that they are completely different even though it states on the HSB sleeve that Frejus,France was the setting just like the video. The reason for this is that I picked up the High Road mini album (4 tracks: CLG,LAH,MOL,JG) recorded in Glasgow and it sounds exactly the same as HSB. Perhaps some of the tracks were from Frejus but certainly not all. The set seems much more assured on HSB as well. Another misconception that I often read in Rock encyclopedias is that Frejus was Roxy's last ever concert and it was captured on camera for posterity reasons. This concert took place about half a year before they split up, didn't it?, and where was the last Roxy concert actually held? I'm surprised at the number of times we're given false information on the sleeves. I mean all of Viva wasn't recorded in the the three settings that it mentions either. False information: maybe it was a man on the cover of Avalon, maybe Lucy Ferry is a man. Bet Bryan wouldn't laugh so uproariously at that suggestion. By the way I forgot to include one question on the poll, that being: Who actually likes the Vapor. See you later, Gareth ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Jan 1999 13:53:27 -0500 From: =?iso-8859-1?Q?Dav=ECd?= Subject: Re: [AVALON] Hidden Gems At 09:23 PM 01/11/1999 -0500, you wrote: >Only heard it once in a used record store. >A 60's band called The Move (I think). I was unfortunately completely cut off from the computer world for a period of about a month and have re-subscribed to avalon on another ISP. Who do I send a videotape to, and when? Thanks for hopefully clearing all of this up for me. The set seems much more assured on HSB as well.<< Yes I've noticed some of the tracks are different. Some are the same but the most noticeable difference is "My Only Love".On HSB this is one of Andy's best sax solo's of all time. The same song on High Road he plays a similar solo but he kind of struggles with it compared to the HSB version. Someone tell me I'm not crazy. Much better than his 2nd and 3rd The 1st is it. Another overlooked artist in the "States". - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Jan 1999 00:53:55 -0500 From: "Decophile" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Ranking the boots - -----Original Message----- From: Victor Hastings To: avalon@smoe.org Date: Thursday, January 14, 1999 6:29 PM Subject: [AVALON] Ranking the boots >i would like to get feedback from the list members on their favorite bf/rm >bootleg recordings. > >i own two lp boots: 'champagne & novocaine,' which appears to be taken from >the same tour that yielded 'viva,' and the second is from the avalon tour. There are three vinyl Roxy boots entitled "Champagne and Novocain" and they can cause quite a bit of confusion. One is the single LP version with insert and contains excerpts from various shows between '71-'74. Another is also a single LP with insert that contains the '75 New York show and the 3rd is a 2 LP Australian boot which contains both disc. The '71-'74 disc was also released under the name "Better Than Food" with a hand drawn black and white printed cover. Anyone looking for Roxy Music bootleg info (track list, catalog #`s etc.) along with Ferry and Eno solo stuff, can check out the sacred Roxy Music Bootleg Achieve at : http://www.pipeline.com/~decophile/roxy.html And I know, I know.....I spelled Bryan`s name (among other words) wrong. I`ll fix it (and complete it) when I get this computer straightened out. > >i'm composing this message at my office, and i don't have the records at >hand, but i would like anybody who owns a rm/bf boot to post to the list, >giving the name of the recording, a track list and a comment about the >recording quality. i am particularly interested in live recordings from the >eno period. > >victor Here`s what I have: (EX. means Excellent sound, VG. means Very Good, S. means Stereo and M means mono) Silk Circles- 01.27.76 Stockholm entire show (LP. 21 songs) EX.+ S Absenthe Makes The Heart Grow Fondle- '75 New York (LP, 11 songs) EX.+ S Champagne & Novocaine-Various BBC broadcast (LP, 9 songs) EX. S Better Than Food- Same as above Chance Meeting- Same as above but adds two extra tracks. (CD, 11 songs) EX. S London '79- (CD, 12 songs) EX. S Ferry/Love Me Madly Again- 07.07.79 Australia rehearsal (CD, 11 songs) VG. S Bittersweet- '74 Boston entire show (2LP 15 songs ) VG. M audience recording. Wild Weekend- Partial 3/8/76 Hemspstead, N.Y. show. (CD, 12 songs) VG. S Bittersweet is by far my favorite and contains everything that makes for a great bootleg. The disc are pressed on multi-colored splatter wax and are very heavy. It has a simple brown and black flyer type insert which depicts a hand drawn woman performing fellatio on a pistol. The LPs themselves are labeled "Favorite U.S. Marches and No Rock N Roll" on Old Glory Records and it`s produced by Codger Jones U.S.M.C. (retired) with a warning: "All you hippie types had better not copy this fine lp or I`ll have your ass! Do You Hear Me!" Everything is hand written. A really fun LP.
