Royalties can be split into many categories (songwriting, arrangement, production, performance etc) depending on contracts. Performance royalties are relevant to Roxy, and for the record the following members share the "performance" royalty part of the overal pie: Ferry, McKay, Manzanera Thompson (when he was a member) Eno (when he was a member) Not sure about Simpson By the way, the source for this was Peter Leay, the original RM Fan Club bloke. Jobson was never a member of Roxy in this sense, but got paid straight fees etc. I don't understand this thing with Eddie Jobson (which was also pointed out in the Paul Stump-book). In what way was he not a formal member of the band? No tatoo on the back of his neck? Or did Bryan say: - - Pleased to have you with us, sonny, but I'm afraid you won't be an official member of our band. You will be featured on our albums, you will have your picture and your name right there on the sleeve, but you're still not an official member of the band. You will of course tour with us, and even write some music for my humble lyrics, but you will _never_ be an official member of the band. I don't get it. /Kicki G - --------------------------- Kicki Gustafsson http://www.torget.se/users/k/KickiG kicki.gustafsson@op.se - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jan 1999 21:54:03 -0000 From: "John Kent" Subject: [AVALON] Roxy Poll 1. Only trivia fans and the extremely bored need to read on. Peel, a late-night Radio One DJ, received one of the confusing array of honours handed out in Britain in the New Year's Honours List a few weeks ago. Was it an OBE? Some other TLA? I forget. Anyway, this is just to a reminder that as Roxy fans, we're all indebted to Peel. This guy champions all good music, new or old - blues, jazz, hip-hop, rap, punk, techno, trance, art-rock, dancehall, you name it. Link Wray to Shabba Ranks, Duane Eddy to The Fall, the Bhundu Boys to Roy Orbison. More than 26 years ago, Peel and his producer Walters were lucky enough to be delivered, in person, a copy of the original Roxy Music demo tape - strange man warbles over doo-wop band battling with malfunctioning synthesiser - that Bryan Ferry was then hawking without much success. And they loved it. Roxy were promptly invited to record a session for Peel's Radio 1 show, attracted record company interest, rave reviews from both Peel ("this band will take the world by storm") and Walters, signed to E.G., and the rest is history. The "When We Were Young" boots are from Peel sessions. The Peel show, to this day, is awesome. You'll never hear better (or less technically accomplished - the guy will never play records at the right speeds or hit the right CD player buttons at the right time). Still plays some of the best new and old music around, albeit choosing wilfully obscure stuff sometimes. One of the worst things about living here in Brussels is that I don't get to hear Peel much any more. Ferry (in a plea for help, perhaps) sampled a fragment of a Peel show for his standout reworking of Rescue Me in '93 - you can hear the old sourpuss muttering "cheers" in the background among the squelchy noises and clips from The Day the Earth Stood Still. Bryan also mentioned that he decided to cover the song Taxi only after hearing the original being played on the Peel show while he was doing a ton down the M1. I was relatively late tuning in to his show (in around 1983) but it still had what it took (first to play The Aphex Twin, Pulp, Pixies, Loop Guru, The Smiths, Bhundu Boys, New Order, PJ Harvey,...) to get me hooked. Peel rules. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jan 1999 11:23:35 -0800 From: Rod Le Cloux Subject: [AVALON] Lucy cover of Avalon Help--Please explain...
