Yes, you are quite right in assuming Jobson was not a formal member of the band, although his solos were well deserving of author payment. The question is, was that clera for everyon eon the band? Can Andy's solos be treated the same way? When I said they were all BF's soldiers of fortune, I meant that it is possible to imagine RM without Eno, Jobson or whatever bassist you like. Maybe even without McKay of Manzanera (dull as it would be). But not without Ferry. Reminds me of Anderson / Squire in Yes... I don't understand this thing with Eddie Jobson (which was also pointed out in the Paul Stump-book). In what way was he not a formal member of the band? No tatoo on the back of his neck? Or did Bryan say: - - Pleased to have you with us, sonny, but I'm afraid you won't be an official member of our band. You will be featured on our albums, you will have your picture and your name right there on the sleeve, but you're still not an official member of the band. You will of course tour with us, and even write some music for my humble lyrics, but you will _never_ be an official member of the band. I don't get it. /Kicki G - --------------------------- Kicki Gustafsson http://www.torget.se/users/k/KickiG kicki.gustafsson@op.se - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Jan 1999 09:48:15 -0500 (EST) From: davdmock@America.net Subject: Re: [AVALON] Soldiers of fortune etc. >In what way was he not a formal member of the band? While nothing was actually said (as to membership, etc), there was NO DOUBT in your mind as to your status. Genesis went on to be be more popular without Gabriel. Who knows with Roxy- there may be a suitable vocalist out there. Some groups got away with changing singers like Deep Purple and Santana, but the guitar player was the main songwriter and leader of those bands. With Roxy you not only lose the voice but the songs. I've always liked bands more than solo artists, you may have one leader, but they all need each other to pull it off. It seems it's a songwriters world though. NY, LA, Nashville etc..are saturated with virtuoso session players who can play every style, but there doesn't seem to be too many Bob Dylan or John Lennon types among todays' "hitmakers".
