For instance, on Viva you selected more obscure material, instead of the so called hits, which most "live" albums seem to feature. I wondered why you did that. Frampton Comes Alive and most other live albums creeping up nowadays mostly serve up as a "greatest hits gone live" type of album. Viva wasn't. BF: It is nice to make something different. Rather than set up the mikes for just one night, one concert, which is usually what's done- most live albums, I think, are a rip-off. We recorded five concerts, during a period of three years, towards a live album which we knew we were eventually going to, and just went through all the tapes and chose what we thought were the best performances from each period. I thought because Roxy had changed through the years it would have been wrong to have chosen material from the most recent taped concert; that would've been the one that "Both Ends Burning" came from, which had Johnny Gustafson on bass, the girl singers and all. This official story has been repeated many times by Robert, and a version of this story is included, I believe, in the Frame by Frame booklet. The official story by Fripp is told in classic Frippese, meaning, it talks around what actually happened, so what actually happened may be slightly different and it might match the story mentioned. But it's equally true that the story mentioned is a mere embellishment of the Frippese, i.e., someone's active imagination. In any case, only Bryan and Robert can say definitively what was heard and said. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Dec 1998 20:57:18 EST From: ASchulberg@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Ferry on Viva << that would've been the one that "Both Ends Burning" came from, which had Johnny Gustafson on bass, the girl singers and all. >> Yeah, the shrieking Sirens.
