There's a listing of Rockpalast Specials on the net at: http://www.mabi.de/~marsch/rp/rn1.html No mention of Roxy there. But I remember Little Feat, Peter Gabriel och Paul Butterfield from these broadcasts. But what I remember is an TV special with Roxy from early 1981. In the early 80's when Robert Fripp was rehearsing his new band "Discipline" he told of playing a rehearsal tape for Bryan Ferry. If I'm not mistaken, Fripp said they were in the studio together working on a Ferry recording. He quoted Bryan saying "it sounds like King Crimson to me." And of course Fripp subsequently changed the band's name to King Crimson (though now he says that was due to some epiphany he experienced whilst driving his car on a country road). Anyway, what ever happened to this Bryan Ferry recording that Robert Fripp played on? Not released, but does it really exist? I would imagine most on this list know that Bryan auditioned for King Crimson around '70-'71, and though Fripp was impressed, he thought him not right for the band. Apparently no tape exists of this audition, it would have been interesting to hear. Anyone ever heard >that before? > >Arnie > Arnie: This is from memory, I think I read it in an article that Fripp wrote for Musician Magazine. He was a regular contributor at the time. I haven't heard anything else about it since either. The Fripp/Trower connection was the subject of some discussion on "Elephant Talk", the KC list some months back. Apparently they were going to make an album together in the mid-70's, that never happened. Fripp has the highest regard for Trower the guitarist. I also remember an interview with John Wetton around 1975 (I threw out all my old rock magazines years ago) when he said there was an odd schism at the EG management offices, with Fripp/Eno on one side and Ferry/Wetton on the other. I'm not quite sure what he meant by that, but I thought it was interesting. I viewed KC and Roxy as two sides of the same coin. I read on the internet that (here in America) on 12/15 a new music video will be released called Musikladen-T-Rex/Roxy Music. Does anyone know anything about this and is it already in Europe? My music-crazy friend is going over to England in July 1999 and I was wondering if there is anything that is easy for him to get (Roxy-related of course) there that I cannot get here and what it would be. Also, I am now looking for New Town now in case anyone has any leads. I tried Tower Records and they don't have it. I am in California by the way. Well, considering he had a new album out which he was supposedly promoting, it really was inexplicable that he dragged out that old chestnut. Perverse, too. And I was also disappointed. Colleen Well you know I was quite surprised that he was on Letterman's show to begin with. I'm sure that Dave's core audience had no idea who Bryan was or his influence. Maybe it was Paul Schaffer (Band leader for the show), hip cat that he is, probably persuased someone to get him on. I think the idea was to get as much exposure out of that apperance that he could so he dug into his arsenal and came up with the one song that America ( not THIS American anyway) "knew" him by. I'm also sure that Dave had no idea who Bryan even though he tries to be "hip". So yes it was dissappointing in one sense, but at least he WAS on the show. Wheter or not that appearance translated into new listners, know one knows. I was majorily pissed that I missed the performance. I'm sure I was watching Jay Leno which by the way Bryan made an apperance on ( no not the same night). I THINK I might have copy of that one. If I remember, he did I put a Spell on You on that one. At least Jay APPEARED to be a fan. Jas PS Does anyone know when The Midnight Special (VH1) will air the Roxy Music segment? They have aired everything else but that one. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V3 #293 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
