Don't know where I read it, but Rex Balfour definitely IS Simon Puxley. I think that Ferry himself admitted to this in an interview. Whatever your take on Lucy - domestic bliss or sham marriage - it is inconceivable that Bryan is over the Texan clotheshorse. How many songs must he sing to convince you of his fidelity to his bete noire ? ? I make the following tracks to be directly inspired by her... Prarie Rose self evident Broken Wings "southern belles, fancy rings, divorced from many things.." Kiss and Tell "flash photograph, its the only light you see" Running Wild "I could even pretend, that I'll fall in love again" Slave tolove self-evident Bete Noire enough said ? He'll have to go not a Ferry composition but a reference to the Jerry, Mick, Bryan triangle Chain Reaction / Your Painted Smile / Stone Woman all seem fair possibilities At very least she is his perenial muse... any other suggestions ? Johnny Rogan agreed with you - he's the author of "Roxy Music: Style with Substance". As an aside, Dr Puxley was also credited as Executive Producer of Bete Noire, one of the 4 producers of The Bride Stripped Bare and consultant on some other things (Mamouna, perhaps). I think he also wrote the often inaccurate notes for one of the Bete Noire tour booklets as well. But wasn't Gareth referring to another book, too? A new one? Details would be welcome. A recent magazine snapshot, perhaps 2 months old, showed Ferry in some restaurant. He looked good, considering his choice of eye wear - a pair of bizarrely ornate sun glasses. Bryan is clearly sticking with his familiar "I'm being exquisitely ironic" tactic and to his credit, he still (pretty much) gets away with it. Not really puffy and not unusually dissolute-looking, I thought. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V3 #285 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
