I loved Andy Newmark w/ Bryan Ferry and his work w/ Bowie, but w/ Roxy live , he just didn't do it for me. The original feel was lost. Who would be a better fit for the 70's Roxy? One that comes to mind is Cozy Powell. He started out w/ the Jeff Beck Group and then played w/ quite a few groups like Rainbow, Michael Shanker, Emerson Lake and Powell (replaced Carl Palmer). I feel he could have done the older songs some justice. Unfortunately he died just a few months ago. Wonder what he's doing now? Last I heard, he'd recorded an album with current Marillion vocalist Steve Hogarth under the "h" name. Great album - very quirky. That and he's getting back with that obscure 70's/80's act Blondie... - --Don - -- Don Becker becker@panther.adelphi.edu http://www.adelphi.edu/don Unix System Administrator, Adelphi University "I am not anything to you. Wonder what he's doing now? Hmm... not bad. I've been struggling trying to come up with *anybody* who can deliver anything close to the Thompson "ummph". First thought was Simon Phillips (801), but he might be a little lacking in power (and I've no idea what he's up to, or if even still around). Other idea was David Narcizo (Throwing Muses), who can probably deliver the energy, though would obviously be the "baby" of the tour. -wfs - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Oct 1998 12:55:47 -0400 From: jspellma@techadvisers.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Drummers: Clem Burke At 16:47 10/19/98 +0100, Jelte Dijkstra wrote: > For some reason, for the 70's Roxy I immediately >thought of Clem Burke, of Blondie. I was thinking of Simon Philips too, but forgot his name...Some 27 year old kid probably wouldn't fit in, better someone from those times. Maybe Tommy Aldridge? Got to be a hard hitter. Was Thompson a basher? He may have hit hard but he had this infectious beat, silky diction... I'm listening to Siren now. Not as experimental and ground breaking as the earlier albums, but the drum mix is far superior to anything before it....Both Ends Burning... Two of the few contemporary CD's I listen to are Amanda Marshall and Billie Myers. The drumming on these is phenomenal. It's Kenny A. on both of them. He is one of, if not the hottest session drummers going right now.
