The fictional lead character is based on Bowie, Ferry, Iggy Pop, Eno, Bolan...the usual suspects. The current copy of Sight & Sound puts a still from the movie on its cover and devotes many pages to the film, including an interview with Todd Haynes. He mentions Ferry and Bowie quite often. It's a good magazine and I highly recommends this edition. Bowie is making his own film of the period, so withdrew (or failed to grant) permission to use his own songs for the film's soundtrack. They were replaced by Eno tracks. There are covers of Roxy songs produced by Michael Stipe, and also the original Roxy version of Virginia Plain. The movie's name is taken from a Bowie song that apparently never made it to an official album. >I hear there is some movie coming out called the Velvet Chain? and one of the >characters is based on Bryan Ferry? Hello, this is my first posting to this list. You've probably covered this before, but I'll ask anyway. What happened to Phil Manzanera?? I've been searching for resent release from him but have found nothing since Southern Cross. Also, I've being hearing rumours of a re-united Roxy. To further fuel these rumour the new, yet unpopulated RM web site & the recent release of the RM's Concert Classic's from the 79 tour. What's up?? Some months ago I bought a live- recordning with The Explorers. I think it was from a radio- program or a TV-show. It's not any new things from Manzanera and I think it's kind of sad - because I like his things a lot. If not a record from him - of course a new Roxy Music-album and if it is like Manifesto it's ok - because on that album Phil Manzanera doing a very fine job.
