Cohen in advance if I misquote) "waiting rooms and ticket lines and silver bullet suicides and messianic ocean tides and other forms of boredom advertized as poetry": but which are, in reality, nothing more than market-specific spam. I'll express this appeal once, not THREE times. HipChip ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Aug 1998 18:49:35 -0500 From: HipChip Subject: [AVALON] Contest and "First Kiss" Boot Greetings again, My addition the Roxy story, no melancholy anecdote of romantic loss, (or at least I hope not). Anyway, during the last BR tour, I arranged to get 6 front row seats for the FT. Worth, Austin, Las Vegas and Berkeley shows. Business prevented by attending the Austin show, so my fiancee, a extremely beautiful 30 year old (looks exactly like Kelly McGillis {sp?} in Top Gun) went with one of her equally beautiful friends, my hairdresser and his "friend" and an old college buddy and his wife. She called me in San Mateo after the show and said it was great and that she and her friend et. al. were invited backstage after the show by someone with the proper credentials to get them backstage. They were all subsequently invited to the party at the Four Season Hotel in Austin. Innocent enough, right. Well, a month later, she and I were walking down the promenade from the Aladdin Hotel and Casino gaming area to the Aladdin arena when we heard someone call out her name. It was Neil Hubbard and David Williams. HHMMMMMM!!!! Tell me folks, should I worry? The Silver Lining, we did get backstage VIP passes and I did get to meet our beloved BF, both in Las Vegas and in Berkeley. _________________________ on another subject, I went the record store today to pick up my newest Roxy boot, First Kiss; and believe it or not, they received two copies of this out of print rarity. Folks, it is for the most part magnificent. Sound quality on disc one is absolutely fantastic on tracks 1-10, and stereo separation is perfect. Awesome Awesome Awesome. These must have come from masters of alternate versions, they sound studio quality and have no audible applause. Disc One 1. If There is Something 2. The Bob 3. Would You Believe? 4. Sea Breezes (awesome, and none of Eno's falling bomb whistle effects found in later recordings) 5. Remake/Remodel 6. Virginia Plain 7. Chance Meeting 8. 2 H.B. 9. Bitter End (great, I never knew they performed this bizarre gem) 10. Ladytron 11. Virginia Plain 12. If There is Something (sound quality fades halfway through) Quality on Disc 2 is a little less sterling. Tracks 2-7 taken from a BBC In Concert broadcast and the announcer claims that track 3 is the first live performance of Bogus Man (Part 2); known and loved as Grey Lagoons. Stereo separation is very good. Disc Two 1. Ladytron 2. The Bob 3. Bogus Man, Part Two, aka Grey Lagoons 4. Sea Breezes 5. Virginia Plain 6. Chance Meeting 7. Remake/Remodel 8. Pyjamarama 9. Editions of You 10. Do the Strand This is vintage Roxy, recorded 1972-1973. I went back and bought the other copy. So, my first inclination offer it to the group as a whole and to send one of the CD sets to where ever it needs go for another CD Tree. So, if those few of my fellow Avalonians who have the ability to record onto CD-R's have the time and/or inclination to involve yourselves with another CD Tree, announce it to the group and then eMail your address to me directly at HipChip@IIIFloyd.com. and off we go. If this is not possible, I give to one of you. I'll figure out a fair method of drawing straws so to speak and send it to the winner; unless the more creative members of the group can devise more fun alternative of picking one. It's like an encylopedia of music. It has bio's on Roxy, Ferry, Eno,, Curved Air, Crimson, Fripp, Scott Walker and a lot of the bands talked about on this list. I read of a Walker/Sylvian colaberation that never materialized. Jas, great story on Parliment. I have abandoned my Texas roots this summer and am now living in the traffic/smog capital of the world: Chicago, Illinois. WHAAAAAA?? Chicago is hardly that capital. If any city, well at least in the US, deserves that title is Los Angeles. I lived there years ago and know on a "clear" day you can just barely see. And speaking of Duststorms- what about Texas? Oh yeah, welcome to Chi-Town it's way "cooler" up here than down in the heart of Texas. Jas PS "Cry, Cry if it makes you feel better.
