Lest we forget: if it's fair that any single band can be credited with inventing punk (and it probably isn't), that band would have to be the Ramones. And Patti Smith, Talking Heads, Television, and Blondie were gigging at CBGBs before Johnny Rotten uttered his first on-stage burp. I have no excuse for Al Sharpton though. Mr. Vapor made the request that the entries contain passion, pain, and perversity, but all I can promise is my best attempt... I had recently become good friends with a man and was determined to only think of him as a friend. One night he and I were up late talking, and the conversation turned to Roxy Music, of which we were both fans. He asked me if I had ever listened to their album, Viva, to which I replied no. He then told me that I had to get a hold of it, if only to hear the live version of the song If There Is Something. He said that it was terrific and cryptically added that if he had the voice, he would sing it to me himself. That's right ladies- he was a first-class charmer. Well, this conversation had sufficiently raised my interest, so the next day I payed a visit to my local music store and purchased my own copy of Viva. I resisted the impulse to immediately skip to If There Is Something and forced myself to start at the beginning of the album. Finally, the first notes of If There Is Something began, and as I listened, I realized that I Had Fallen for my friend hook, line, and sinker, which was definitely not something that I had planned. This realization was especially painful, due to the fact that the object of my affection was married. But come what may, whenever I hear that song I will always think of him. So there you have it Avalon- the Passion of love, and the Pain that always accompanies it. And don't worry Judge Vapor, I haven't forgotten the Final P- Perversity; my friend happened to be considerably older than me, which I suppose can be taken as perverse, but I'll leave that up to the courts to decide.... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Aug 1998 05:16:00 +0200 From: ccd@dataweb.nl Subject: [AVALON] Brian Eno Brian Eno, jan. 02, 1998 http://www.liveconcerts.com/ ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V3 #191 **************************** ======================================================================== Please send any questions or comments about the list to avalon-digest-owner@smoe.org
