You can just about hear the Ferry song squeeze its way past the off-putting sound of another Phil Collins production. The song itself would have happily lived on Flesh and Blood. Frida/Frieda puts quite a happy spin on it. I wonder if they checked through all those mysterious companies listed on the tour booklets? Dodgy bloke. I missed the sidebar, so wondered how Q, in a specialist pop poll, skipped him while the last Sunday Times list put him at 50 million pounds (or was it dollars?). Surprised and pleased to find that Eno was put at 7 million quid. Not sure I believe it, though. Speaking of Eno, I finally shelled out for the Eno instrumental box last week-end. Disc 3 is a glorious thing, with the unreleased "My Sqeulchy Life" stuff sounding surprisingly mellow and sincere. Highly recommended to all the Eno-minded. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Jul 1998 22:50:29 +0300 From: "Michael Hillman" Subject: Re: [AVALON] bryan hits top ten - are you sure? In fact, one of the supposed "dodgy" companies is Dene Jesmond Enterprises Ltd. which Bryan is the sole director/shareholder of...if anyone cares what his wealth is you could always call up Companies House in the UK and get the info of the turnover, assets, director's salary etc. which is public information...don't dream of getting his home address from this as the registered address of the company and the director is listed at his accountants (Harris and Trotter) address... so there you go... all I would be interested in is how he can go for several years without putting out a record or doing a tour just because of artistic reasons, i.e. financially...maybe he gets substantial enough royalties from old record sales and all this sort of thing so as not to need it...we know however that he was forced to sell his flat in New York to fund the production of Mamouna and that Andrew Lloyd Webber sold a single painting at an auction for "more money than I have ever made (BF)" so there we go... 50 million sterling or even dollars is rather a lot of money...the Spice Girls are worth something like 5 million each after a year or so and so it would be hard to believe that he could be worth this sort of money after 25 years considering the comparative success... "all that money could buy - all of those things - I could never be sure where to begin" so there he goes... - ---------- > From: Bahi Para > To: avalon@smoe.org > Subject: Re: [AVALON] bryan hits top ten > Date: 29 July 1998 22.56 > > Theresa wrote: > > >in the current ish of UK's Q mag, there's a list of the 100 richest > >musicians in britain (paul mcc -- the richest) --with nary a mention of bry. > >reason why? explained in a sidebar that they couldn't find one shred of > >-->public<-- evidence that he had any money whatsoever -- sly one, eh?! > > I wonder if they checked through all those mysterious companies listed on > the tour booklets? The man once again deserves our congratulations - being suffciently sorted to escape an audit that revealed what it did about other pop stars' riches is a sign of quality. (Sort of...) There have, I believe, been other Bryan Ferry companies - all above board, I'm sure. And Bryan has claimed to spend about six months of the year abroad - more possibilities. And, let's be honest, if the one ltd company you mention shows a true representation of Bryan's income or total financial assets, then the man needs new accountants. This discussion must by now be sufficiently boring for us to continue off-list... I would have compared the probability of a Companies House-related discussion on Avalon to the chance of getting struck by lightning. Bizarre.
