I wouldn't know. My point was only that public schools are funded by school districts by assessing and levying propety taxes. City, county and state gov'ts are funded in large by sales taxes (some states by income taxes). Greedy cities gov't officials have no access or control over school district money; especially for stadiums or downtown entertainment districts. These are usually funded by local sales taxes called tourist taxes and by issuing bonds, which are (hopefully) repaid out of of future sales tax revenues. Liberals don't frighten me. They annoy me. But then, I am an assshole and most assuredly annoy a lot of people myself. So be it. Ted Nugent once was quoted as saying that not only should guns be legal, but people should be able to legally shoot assholes. What a crock of shit. Almost 100% of all property taxes collected in cities in America go to the School Districts, and not to the "greedy city government" which are supported by sales taxes. Get your facts stright before you pollute this group with your liberal bullshit. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jul 1998 16:43:58 -0500 From: Roberto =?iso-8859-1?Q?Obreg=F3n?= Subject: [AVALON] Re: unsubscribe avalon At 03:53 PM 21/07/98 -0400, you wrote: >I don't know if I was saying you were incorrect. No doubt this is true. On top of that, the racial climate in America is also to blame. Even when they sent inner city kids to the schools I went to, most didn't do as well. Hanging on to the idea that blacks have to have their own community separate than the whites really hurts both sides. My kids are black so I've gotten to notice how people (not all) can treat you differently. It still pisses me off that there are two states that fail to recognize a holiday for a guy who died pursuing equality for ALL races, creeds etc... and nobody cares that we all celebrate a day for rape and pillage poster boy Chris Columbus, a guy who discovered a country with people already living in it. The Native Americans got screwed as much as anybody. It's just inherited and tolerated.
