Uh, gentlemen. Think about it: Avalon. Now go look at the cover again. Any more questions? Or maybe you think there should be a Baltimore row house instead? Paul ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Jun 1998 22:44:15 EDT From: Dawndalian@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] avalon cover Hello Gang, How 'bout a mythical, mystical interpretation? Avalon: A Celtic word meaning, "the islands of apples," and in Celtic mythology, referred to the Island of Blessed Souls. In the Arthurian Legends, it is the Abode and Burial Place of King Arthur, who was carried hither by Morgan le Fay. With that in mind, I always thought that Avalon, the title and m ore importantly, the cover and its appearance, had to do with the death of King Arthur. And perhaps this idea could align itself with Reality, as Our Beloved Hero, Bryan named one of his children, "Merlin." Apparently, the man digs on Arthurian mythology, as I dig on Greek mythology (having named one of my boys, Carl Heracles, or Hercules)..... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Jun 1998 22:54:41 EDT From: Dawndalian@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] avalon cover Oh, let me finish that thought.... Sorry, I got distracted, and off went the last email Anyway, being that Avalon was the last Roxy album, I saw Avalon and the image on the cover as a sort of imagery representing the finality of this album project.. Like Avalon was Roxy's swan song or something. Like when Arthur died, and Excalibur was tossed back to the woman of the lake, Camelot was all over (so I think: I am ready for your corrections, gang!!!). I loved the album cover....so mysterious anhd enigmatic... and I did not know that Lucy Ferry was the mystery-woman in the Celtic cloak and helmet. And I never saw the Avalon video.... Where can I get a copy? I am counting on you, Avalonians!!! Thanks., Dawne ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Jun 1998 00:22:32 EDT From: ShyGuy8119@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] avalon cover In a message dated 98-06-19 23:04:09 EDT, you write: Anyway, being that Avalon was the last Roxy album, I saw Avalon and the image on the cover as a sort of imagery representing the finality of this album project.. I like that interpretation very much, but there are so many, I don't think there is just one...it can mean something different to everyone...this is one of the many great things that I praise about the early '80s Roxy: their music and BF's lyrics went to such amazing creative heights, that even the album artwork can be analyzed into something of its own... I loved the album cover....so mysterious anhd enigmatic... and I did not know that Lucy Ferry was the mystery-woman in the Celtic cloak and helmet. Yes, actually, in TTOIA book, there are outtakes from the album photo shoots....on the side of each photo is a caption with the name of the model(s)....the red haired model for Avalon was Lucy (I forget her maiden name).. And I never saw the Avalon video.... Where can I get a copy? Somebody sent me a dubbed copy of the defunct "NightFlight" show from around the time of "Boys & Girls"....I saw the Avalon video there...the video coincides with the lyrics, BF is in this grand, picturesque house where he sees the girl and they start dancing...and you also see him with the bird from the cover... :-) Paul ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V3 #150 **************************** ======================================================================== Please send any questions or comments about the list to avalon-digest-owner@smoe.org
