I keep seeing them used for relatively cheap prices and am wondering if it is worth it to buy one. And if so, which one? I like Diamond Head a lot -- seems like the best album Roxy Music never made. The only other solo Phil stuff I have is the second 801 album "Listen Now", which I didn't like all that much, and The Manzanera Collection, which has a bunch of rare gems ("The Fat Lady Of Limbourg" by 801, his flamenco stuff, The Explorers, etc.) While it may be pricy, that's as good a place as any to start. - --Don - -- Don Becker becker@panther.adelphi.edu Unix System Administrator, Adelphi University http://www.adelphi.edu/don "Deep down inside we're all one and the same" --Marillion, "The Last Straw" ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Jun 1998 12:24:37 -0500 From: "Victor Hastings" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Manzanera solo stuff - -----Original Message----- From: Don Becker To: avalon@smoe.org Date: Monday, June 08, 1998 11:44 AM Subject: Re: [AVALON] Manzanera solo stuff >On Mon, 8 Jun 1998, 1960 Joe wrote: > >> I am curious as to whether Phil Manzanera solo albums are any good. I saw some of them, but never bothered to buy the LP's. I don't know if they're on CD. I have "Resolving Contradictions" on CD, which is oriental flavoued instrumental stuff which I have to say I really enjoy. However, the fusion of Mackay, Manzanera and, of course, Ferry in Roxy Music is, IMHO, the pinnacle of each musicians career. I have both the LPs ('76 and '77). Never seen them on CD. They're pretty much crap, IMHO. Unless you're a fan of Julie Covington or Rula Lenska. It's an Arab word. It's a girl's name and it also means good luck, so, there you go. - -- But then again, what do I know? I'm a Polack. One was definitely looking after pit ponies and I remembered the other as being farming, but could definitely be mistaken. Anyone have the tape? My copy's miles away but I'll pick it up this week-end if I remember. The programme is one of a series presented by then-Radio 1 DJ Andy Peebles, whose name I think I'm spelling incorrectly. It dates from 1986 or so. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Jun 1998 23:05:57 EDT From: Dawndalian@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] The 42nd Annual Roxy/Ferry Trivia Stump-O-Rama, With Your Host, J In a message dated 6/8/98 5:06:16 PM Pacific Daylight Time, matanc@gusun.georgetown.edu writes: > > But then again, what do I know?
