Er. We know lots about it - you haven't been following. Here's a summary: It's just Bryan at the piano (following the 56-track "madness" of Horoscope/Mamouna, Bryan set up a 24-track studio equipped with a lava lamp in London, the first product of which was Taxi) and was produced by Dave Stewart. It features noise, treatments and found GSM doodlings by Scanner (aka Robin Rimbaud). No date has yet been set for its release. It's a collection of 30s, 40s and 50s cover versions. One of the new Ferry songs is called "Love War". Sounding more assertive than Mamouna, this album features just Bryan and his guitar. Bernard Butler (ex-Suede guitarist) and Edwyn Collns (ex-Orange Juice guitarist & singer) play on it. Bryan co-produced it with Robin Trower. It was recorded on an advanced digital disk 56-track system and should be released late in 1996. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 May 1998 09:41:58 -0700 From: Rex Estorffe Subject: Re: [AVALON] Re: avalon-digest V3 #101 Bahi Para wrote: > > >Yesyesyesyesyesyesyes. I hope it's not expecting too much for Harris to include a Stylophone solo played on the more expensive deluxe model of the instrument. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 May 1998 21:17:29 -0700 From: Rex Estorffe Subject: Re: [AVALON] Re: Graham Howard wrote: > > > Date: Fri, 1 May 98 15:47:19 UT > > From: "Robert Fedder" > > To: avalon@smoe.org > > Reply-to: avalon@smoe.org > > > Rolf Harris on guest antipodean instruments. > > You've got to be kidding. > > Graham. > >oh no! i'ts just the way my drape jacket hangs > > > > > > > > > > >Yesyesyesyesyesyesyes. So I first heard "Roxy Music" in 1993. This time I gave it a couple of listens (as opposed to the 1980's when I expected something to click the first time I heard it). After those few listens I was hooked. Roxy Music is definitely my favorite band, no contest. I saw Bryan Ferry once (must have been '93) in Hollywood. He was the greatest. The best thing about seeing him live was that he did not skimp on the early material. He sang "Song for Europe," "In Every Dream Home a Heartache," "Editions of You." I fell in love with the man! I think that a lot of women like Roxy Music because Ferry is so romantic and seems to know what women want to hear. So when a guy likes them, well, women like that. (I know Ferry's romantic persona is just one aspect of Roxy Music. There is also their avant-garde image, Manzanera's incredible guitar playing, Bryan Eno's genius production, etc etc. But what I like best is Ferry's suave image. I can see myself swooning over him when I'm 40 the way some women swoon over Tom Jones. Oh well. Anyway, to answer your question about why Roxy Music hasn't been more influential in terms of modern music, I think it might be because a lot of Roxy's music is difficult to access the first time. It takes a couple of listens and most people aren't patient. So why would Greg make suffer such an egregious (like the pun?) mistake to appear on his website?. If it's not a mistake does someone want to identify the track on which Ferry is guest vocalist? I know Fripp has mentioned the Bryan auditioned for the band but is reported to have stated that no tapes of the audition exist and that Bryan was not hired. So, wassup??? Arnie Arnie: Fripp stated in an article in Guitar World Magazine about two years ago that that tape does exists exist. I wish I kept the article, but I remember it more because of the Bryan Ferry connection and that Fripp thought that the tape was a hoot. Well if he would just release it then let US be the judges. Lucky for us Bryan was turned down-there might not have been a Roxy Music. Oh by the way the song was 21st Century Schzoid Man. If he comes to your town on his present tour, someone please get his attention on this matter.
