Two others - he started with Sensation and ended with Jealous Guy. It went down well (though I can imagine Boys & Girls causing some bemusement) but there were lots of technical problems. Andy Newmark broke a drum with the first beat of Sensation; Dave Gilmour's guitar was swapped during a song, I think; and no-one heard much of Sensation - Ferry's mike didn't work properly so was he was given another and ended up doing the rest of the set clutching the two. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Apr 1998 19:47:21 -0400 From: jspellma@techadvisers.com Subject: [AVALON] VH1 Top 100 Artists Did anyone see the VH1 top 100? Unless I missed something neither Bryan Ferry or Roxy Music were there. In the top 100 were Devo, Iggy Pop and The Sex Pistols.....They're all great but one of them could have been left out. They are always left out off their A to Z specials as well. Is the music that far from mainstream? Or is it his arrogance? Or what? Help me out. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Apr 1998 20:53:35 -0400 From: Amanda Carsner Subject: [AVALON] VH1 top 100 artists Greetings! About the closest either Roxy Music or Byan Ferry have come to gaining any recognition on the ever-beloved VH1 is through the channel's nostalgia trip show "8-Track Flashback". I remember seeing one show focusing on 70's glam rock that included a great Roxy Music performance of "Virginia Plain" and another featuring Bryan singing "Let's Stick Together" with Jerry Hall prancing about. If RM/BF continue to remain unrecognized in this country, so be it! We are the precious few who know what it's all about! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Apr 1998 22:06:37 EDT From: JSMITH900 Subject: Re: [AVALON] VH1 top 100 artists Amanda, In a message dated 98-04-05 21:13:24 EDT, you write: << If RM/BF continue to remain unrecognized in this country, so be it! In the Detroit area, we have a relatively new alternative radio station [The Edge; 105.1] that promotes themselves as playing "music that Detroit radio forgot." It's a very promising station. I'm pushing for them to play Roxy tunes, preferably other than "Love Is the Drug." Someone mentioned that BF's "arrogance" may have led to his lack of radio and video play. I don't know. I have a video of an appearance on the Tonight Show, where Brian seemed to be downright nervous - not arrogant in any sense.
