Is our Bryan up for a gong in the New Year's Honours ... Order of the Brown Nose perhaps? Sunday Mirror 15th Feb 1998: "Mimic Rory Bremner has revealed how he teamed up with one of his favourite 'victims' Tony Blair for tennis - and ended up partying with the Premier and two rock stars. The tv funnyman bumped into Blair at a French holiday village. He said:'We both love tennis and decided to have a game but the court was taken. By chance, we learned that there was a court at the home of former Eurythmics guitarist Dave Stewart just a few minutes away. So Blair and I played a match against Stewart and Bryan Ferry. It was like a bizarre dream.' ..." and The Times 17th Feb 1998: "Rory Bremner is an apparently modest chap. On the Parkinson show last week, the comedian told a jolly tale of pairing with Tony Blair for a tennis game in the South of France, but was coy about the result. I can now disclose that the Bremner-Blair duo roundly thrashed Bryan Ferry and Dave Stewart, representatives of the popular music industry. Bremner says:'Tony is an extremely good player, although he could do with being a bit more competitive.' Does that mean they were allowed to win the match?" - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Feb 1998 09:00:24 +1300 (NZDT) From: David Fairley Subject: [AVALON] He'll have to go and Jealous Guy Quick question: In what context did BF perform the Jim Reeves standard "He'll Have to Go"?-does this appear on an album somewhere? Also re Jealous Guy - was this part of a tribute album to John Lennon or just a single release and were Roxy asked by Yoko Ono personally to perform the track. Folks" Subject: [AVALON] Music for Airports Just heard on NPR this evening about David Lang, Julia Wolfe and Michael Gordon, members of the New York music ensemble called Bang on a Can. The group takes important but not very well-known 20th century compositions and tours the nation performing them. They have chosen to recreate Brian Eno's 1978 landmark, proto-ambient recording "Music for Airports." The work sounds fantastic and a record is to be released next week. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V3 #45 *************************** ======================================================================== Please send any questions or comments about the list to avalon-digest-owner@smoe.org
