His wife Lucy (pictured above), has been flogging her winter clothes. She recently off-loaded a full length white mink coat to Designer Bargains, a gloomy second-hand clothes shop in Kensington. They paid her pounds 500. Those wishing to avail themselves of Mrs Ferry's cast-off will find that the price tag has now been raised to pounds 1,500" Daily Mirror 31.1.98 "Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera has discovered a new band, Snug. The foursome, whose single Beatnik Girl is out in March, also impressed Radio ! DJs Steve Lamacq and Jo Whiley" Sunday Times 1.2.98 "Antony Price, who won fame in the 1970s with avante-garde stage creations for rock stars such as Bryan Ferry ... was being tipped in Milan last week as the designer most likely to shape Versace's haute couture arm." - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Feb 1998 15:21:15 GMT From: "MCGINLEY GA" Subject: [AVALON] photos Got a wonderful treat through the post this morning. It was a set of Bryan Ferry photos from his 1995 tour. Three of them show Bryan in a red waistcoat singing while two others show him in a blck jacket again whilst singing. The photos come in sets of 5 and apparently there are four sets. They are stlg5.95 plus stlg1 postage and packaging. You also get a sheet of further sets of Ferry photos which are bigger and which are black and white. Amongst them is that picture of Ferry that can be found in Virgins profile of him on the net. For further details you can e- mail the distributors at RJohn48951@AOL.COM. These photos wil look great in my room once framed. Over christmas I bought Viva Roxy Music and what a great album it is. I cant really understand the criticisms it has had on the list. Ferry is at his dictatorial best and the performances of Out of the blue, If there is something, Dream home and Do the strand are sensational. The only one Idont like is Both ends burning and that is because those sirens should be brought out and shot. Speaking of Sirens an article appeared in The Sunday Times about AnTHONY Price. It makes reference to how he used such tight dresses on the sirens that they had to be carried on stage. It also makes reference to the fact that he worked extensively with Bryan as well as Jagger and Steve Strange (Excuse my ignorence but who is he?). Aparently Price is being tipped as the man to take over from Versace. This should add to the Roxy legend whenever the new interest begins to surface which I suspect will be pretty soon. Finally I must say at how surprised I was at the amount of Bowie bashing on the list. Surely anybody who was big into early Roxy must admire his great albums of the early seventies. I mean Diamond Dogs is an excellent album, as is Alladin Sane and Hunky Dory and Ziggy are pretty good albums too. As well as this David and Bryans career have followed pretty similar paths. Although I do rate Bryan as superior to anybody else in music Bowie comes second and I think many people on this list feel a bit jealous of Bowie with the amount of interest he recieves compared to Bryan. Lets face it if Bowie had never been then Bryan would have come out of the 70's as the most influential artist and he would never have been let have as low a profile as he currently does. Anyway I'm of to buy a few frames. Good luck all, Gareth. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Feb 1998 10:20:42 EST From: ASchulberg@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] The big clean up In a message dated 98-02-05 04:37:52 EST, you write: << Derrida is not an existentialist but a postmodernist and >poststructualist. Anyone who admires Roxy Music should appreciate Bowie's work as well. They complement, not compete, with each other.
