I think Mamouna was recorded in a 24-track studio. In all actaulity, from a technological standpoint, this should speed things up. This kind of system should allow the same kind of basic cut and paste features any computer user is familiar with, just a LOT more sophisticated. OK, there may be a learning curve, but that's why he's got engineers. And I could be way wrong, but I think Mamouna was recorded in a lot larger studio than a 24 track. The recording is way to dense for that small of a studio. I got the impression from what Ferry has said about the making of "Mamouna" that he wasn't interested in taking that long to make an album again. I believe him. (Strange, until this very moment, I never considered myself an optimist.) We can hope, anyway. A few months ago I first came upon a record of Bryan (Let's stick together). Fell in love with the music, especially with the song 2HB. Became slightly obsessed, playing it over and over. The obsession has more or less passed, but I guess I'm still stuck with a life long Roxy Music love. Anyway, I'd like to know if there's a story behind the beautiful lyrics of 2HB. Listen to the lyrics again with that reference point in mind. It's not the only time Ferry has paid tribute to Bogart. "These Foolish Things" (from the album of the same name) was featured in a Bogart film, interestingly named "Tokyo Joe". For what it's worth, I agree. This is one of my all-time favorites by Ferry. Obviously (I would hope) I didn't mean that BF's version of "These Foolish Things" was in HB's movie, "Tokyo Joe", rather it was the original (?) version. I have no idea who did the original. That's what happens when you knock something off real fast at 2 AM. Sorry for my unintended inaccurate implication. Anyway, for whatever it's worth, thanks for prodding me to dig out "the Thrill Of It All" and listen to those early tracks again. I put so much energy into looking for something new and exciting to listen to, I sometimes tend to forget how great this stuff is. Following is one person's response to the question of tapes: >It was the _Islands_ lineup, not the original band, for which Ferry unsuccessfully auditioned. The confusion probably stems from the fact that Ferry sang songs from the first LP ("In The Court Of The Crimson King" and "Schizoid Man") at his try-out. And according to Fripp (Goldmine 1/10/92), "I threatened for many years to make the tapes publicly available. In fact, Bryan's auditions were just about the only ones we didn't record."
