While the uptempo ones are great, they are camp through and through. But the ballads manage to squeeze in some of his world-weary soul amongst the arched eyebrows and sidelong winks. My name is Heather Propes. I'm American (but maybe not forever) I'm new to the list, a big fan of early Roxy Music. "If There is Something" is my favorite song of all times. I love it all, though. I studied art history, and always enjoyed the "Helmut Newton-esque" album covers, and the band's world-weary flaneur stylings in general. I think that Bryan Ferry, like D.H. Lawrence (my other favorite master of the English language) has a real knack for describing sensuality with total conviction. Glam-rock went in many directions with T-Rex (another favorite), Bowie, Mott the Hoople, Elton John, etc. But I think that Roxy alone managed to keep it tasteful and, as Jeri Hall said in her memoirs of Bryan Ferry, "aristocratic." Anyway, I'm really glad to be here. I will try to contribute a lot. I hope this posting doesn't sound like a manifesto (although I don't think anything I write could sound as great as Manifesto). Quick question - Has anyone heard about the release of Todd Hayne's film, "Velvet Goldmine" in the States?
