Well, I'm pleased to see a few folks starting to move in "different" directions, as I've been scratching my head, wondering just what version of "romantic" I would use. For me at least, there are multiple interpretations, and I think Colleen captures exactly that sentiment with her selection(s). For the feel of two lovers already lost in themselves, or maybe just a "calmer" type of romance, like most respondents so far, I'd be looking in his post-Manifesto portfolio. But my own life experiences lead to the portions of his catalog replete with themes of unrequited search, which are also powerfully romantic (in a heart-rending way) and searingly emotional. Along such lines, I could easily make cases for Mother of Pearl, Nightingale, Would You Believe? and a host of others. However, picking just one -- _If There Is Something_. -wfs - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jan 1998 16:00:35 -0500 (EST) From: JVapor7@aol.com Subject: Re: Re: [AVALON] RE: VELVET GOLDMINE, the Unambomber, #49 There's a Todd Haines film coming out (Europe in April, America in October) that features four Roxy Songs--'Ladytron, To HB, Virginia Plain, Bitter's End.' The film is a fictional account of the relationship between an opportunistic glam rock star (said to be based on Bowie) and one of his heroes (said to be a cross of Iggy Pop/Lou Reed). The Roxy songs are featured quite prominently and the film is supposed to be great ( Mr. Haines also directed 'Poison,' the very acrimonious 'Safe,' and the all-Barbie doll nightmare entitled 'The Karen Carpenter Story') Will this be the tiresome 'resurgence of interest' that will lead to the dreaded Roxy Music REUNION??? Trolled by one of our own. What is this world coming to? OK, Jimmy, I'll bite. Although the contexts are admittedly different, I think Thom Yorke is one of the few people alive who could out-Ferry Ferry. With the possible exception of Bernard Butler, that is. So I'm looking forward, with no trepidation, to these remakes. As for the reunion, I say bring on the T-shirts, the VH-1 special, the promotional tie-in with Starbucks, the double CD live reunion album, the Entertainment Weekly and Time interviews. Hell, let ABC use the tour as the theme of the sweeps month programming a la U2. They could call it 'Manifesto' and tie it to their coverage of the Unabomber trial for all I care. Down with artistic integrity. Bring on the gross commercialism. Listen to Phil's slashing chords on AIWIY and Andy's snaky oboe (what kind of rock instrument is that?
