In an early interview Bowie said that in the seventies "Roxy Music were the only group worth listening to". DB and BF have been acquaintances and mutual fans since the seventies, and always speak highly of each other whenever they are mentioned in interviews. I don't think that Bowie is that insecure that he'd deliberately leave out BF on the credits. I think its a genuine mistake. DB cannot see BF as a threat cos BF has not achieved the world superstar status that Bowie has; in particular BF has never made it big in US. That is to say, has never had any big hits there like Bowie. Personally, I think that musically light years ahead of Bowie. Interesting that you mention Prairie Rose. I've been a fan almost from the beginning, that is from 1973, so I bought the records as they came out, then when I started moving around alot I sold all my records and bought cassettes, which got lost or broken in my travels. Then went a while without any Roxy fixes, and had a rather long gap without being able to listen to their stuff. Only recently have I bought a CD player. I started buying their stuff on CD and its amazing how well most of it stands the test of time. I can't believe Country Life is twenty four years old. Interestingly, listening to the album after a long gap I find myself liking tracks I never was crazy about before. Prairie Rose was never one of my fav tracks from CL, but listening to it now its sounds great; especially the ending, the way it pounds along it makes me want to dance! Similarly, Siren was never one of my fav Roxy albums but listening to it now I hear things I never heard before. "Nightingale" is a lovely song, and "Whirwind" races punkishly along; now think its one of their most exciting songs, and I'd love to see em do it live. How many rock groups/artists can you say that their music still sounds fresh and interesting and you are finding new things in it after more than twenty years? Personally, I think David fucking Bowie doesn't have the talent to light one of Bryan Ferry's farts. Ferry is a great original material/song stylist/singer who belongs more in the company of Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, even Kurt Cobain--or, as a singer, even jazzbos like Johnny Hartman or Little Jimmy Scott. I thought it was completely wrong for people to lump him in with all that (often) pretentious English glam/art rock horseshit that hasn't stood the test of time like 'Country Life,' etc. It still puts my hair in curlers any time I put the needle to 'All I Want is You,' 'Thrill of it All' or the great live bootleg version of 'If It Takes All Night.'
