Cheers! > Interesting. IYM is generally considered to be not one of BFs best; some, like me, think its hes most superficial and forgettable album, but its a nice listen. Its difficult to pin down the difference btwn the RM and BF solo sounds. I think there is a difference, but I cant put my finger on it. I was going to say that RM tend to be more uptempo but of course Avalon contradicts that thesis. There seems to be more a sort of "wall of sound" with RM. I think there is an overlap in sounds, but then there is alot that is distinctive of RM and BF solo respectively. IMHO the three tracks mentioned above are the best on the album. > Its difficult to pin down the difference btwn the RM and BF solo > sounds. There seems to be more a sort of > "wall of sound" with RM. I think there is an overlap in sounds, but > then there is alot that is distinctive of RM and BF solo > respectively. > The only difference that seems consistent from album to album is instrumentation -- RM (especially the Eno albums) greatly utilized the synthesizer as a solo instrument, whereas Ferry's work generally deemphasizes electronics. Also Ferry brings in a wide range of string & horn players on his solo efforts whereas RM generally stuck w/ instruments the band members could play (Mackay's oboe & sax, Jobson's violin). Of course by F+B Ferry had almost completely forsworn the synth as a solo instrument & used it just for background so this characterization may not be completely valid either. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Oct 1997 17:25:19 -0500 From: Will Subject: Re: [AVALON] Re: avalon-digest V2 #34 jas2347@xsite.net wrote: > > avalon-digest wrote: > > > > avalon-digest Wednesday, October 22 1997 Volume 02 : Number 034 > > > > Today's Subjects: > > ----------------- > > [AVALON] Natural Life Cycle of Mailing Lists [Brian Folks Oh so true-to life. > > Jas in Chicago So what stage are we in?
