I have been away for 4 months and so I'm just catching up now. Second it's great to see everyone is keeping a keen interest on this list. I am happy to see that the media has not completely forgotten the influence that B.F & R.M have had on the music scene. I think the articles I read on Roxy in the Guardian and the Uncut magazine were by far the best I've ever read. Even Bryans birthday was celebrated on top of the pops 2 with some classic performances in V.P, A.I.W.I.Y, M.T.T, and I.Y.L.S.E. Did anyone else see these? I didnt realise Bryan performed on T.O.T.P after the Roxy split so I was pleasently surprised to here the latter solo effort. My only disappointment was that I didnt have a video to tape it. On my visit to London this summer I completed my video collection by obtaining copies of The high road and New town which is by far the best live video. However no matter how hard I looked I could'nt find an import/promo copy of Dance with life which I am desperately trying to obtain. Finally a few comments on whats been going on in the list since I left. Whoever said that rereleases of old material is horribly wrong. I mean surely everyones opinion of B.F must have been altered after he did Mamouna compared to after Taxi was released. Also Bete Noire is far from a "bad" album. It represents another moving on for Bryan and I love to listen to it. Day for night is one of the best tracks but my own favourite is New Town. In your mind is also an enjoyable album with Love me madly again being the most memorable track. I agree about Bette Noir. Its one of his most thoughtful and emotional albums. When someone wrote to the list saying it was his worst and only bad album I went AAARGH! BF has done some really outstanding stuff since the RM split; as good as his ever been. I agree that Taxi isnt his most inspired but I think this is true of all his cover albums; you get some mediocre stuff and one or two outsdanding tracks like the In Crowd on ATAP and Spell on Taxi. As for early BF being better than later BF, IMHO, both Bette Noir and Mamouna are as good as anything hes done solo. These, along with TBSB prove that BF is more consistant when he does his own stuff than when he does covers. With 'TheseFoolishThings' BF was original in musical details. 'HardRain'sGonnaFall' to name one, is a good example, with that typical BF singing. And then there's Taxi: only the songs' titles remained the same, with that typical older BF singing. Frank ccd@dataweb.nl PS. anyone seen 'TheseFoolishThings' by Dylan at Bologna-Italy with the Pope in the audience? - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V2 #19 *************************** ======================================================================== Please send any questions or comments about the list to avalon-digest-owner@smoe.org
