'76 ["Decophile" Subject: [AVALON] New Jap. Ltd. Release Roxy Live N.Y. '76 Hello Roxyphiles, I`ve come across a 1 CD '76 Hempstead, N.Y. show called, "Wild Weekend." It`s a Ltd. number Japanese release, but weather or not it`s a bootleg is unclear and since Japan seems to get away with releasing all kinds of great stuff, I`m sure it`s anybody`s guess. In any case, I was wondering if anyone else has seen this. I ordered a copy and it should be in some time next week, but in the mean time, if anyone has already grabbed a copy, could you give us your impressions of it? Enquiring minds want to know. Cheers. Driving around yesterday, I got the idea that Jamiroquai could fill those postmodern shoes... And here's my question: >Has the long version of "Is Your Love Strong Enough" been released on >anything besides this single, and in that case on what? >Micke There is an extended (7:06) version of "is your love strong enough" on a the A side of a 12" record that has an instrumental version of windswept and the short version of IYLSE on the B side. The front cover has a photo of BF reminiscent of the video for "More than this" and the back has a picture of Tim Curry made up as the monster from his role in the movie Legend. The song played over the credits, as I recall. I also remember both sidesof the record as being very good - unfortunately I no longer have a record player and my record collection is down in the basement. While there doing this fact-checking, I also took a brief look at the other EP's I have of RM/BF. Great cover art - I miss that in these days of CD's. There is the "Slave to Love" EP with a pale BF on the cover smoking a cigarette, and a woman with her wrists bound rising from the smoke. Also "Dont stop the dance" (remix of this on A side, remix of Slave to Love on B side) with BF in white linen trousers and a white shirt on the front cover caught mid-air in a dance step. In addition I have Kiss and Tell, and Windswept EP's. I recall seeing an EP from the Avalon days at a record store, but I was a poor student and I'm sad to say I didn't get it. BTW, I agree about Dance with Life, I found it bland. Hi Gene Where did you find the information about this CD? I guess it is one fo the bootleg CDs sold in Tokyo, but I am not sure. I might have seen this when I visited to Tokyo, but I've not bought. I might have seen this >>when I visited to Tokyo, but I've not bought. >>Isao Niwa vu5i-nw@asahi-net.or.jp I came across it in the Sep. "Goldmine" magazine (record/cd collectibles) by a company called "Midnight Records." (www.midnightrecords.com) Ok, Ok, I know that the name just reeks of bootlegs but their titles are really no different than many titles carried by a host of companies selling ltd. edition Japanese released CDs and even actual radio show CD/LP`s i.e. King Biscuit, Superstars In Concert, BBC Rock Hour etc. (What`s up with those and why are they immune from boot status) I`m sure it`s just a matter of time before these other companies pick up this Roxy show. It was only a few months ago that the "powers that be" cracked down on advertisers selling boots through "Goldmine," but companies selling these Japanese CDs were not effected. (Although I`ve noticed that boots are slowly making a reappearance. One ad in particular is quite blatant about it.) I don't pretend to know about the copyright laws in Japan and if what they are exporting are indeed bootlegs, then judging by what is released each month, they have a monster mother load of material. I do find it remarkable that this show has escaped release until now and if it is a boot, then it will be the first Roxy boot released in close to a decade.
